Happening Around Thunder Bay Ontario

Post by muffin57 » Sun Jan 10, 2016 9:59 pm

Check out these links for news around Thunder Bay. I live SW of Thunder Bay about 45 minutes away and then it is an hour more East to Nipigon. The only transportation link (highway) connecting Eastern to Western Canada. I feel sorry for the truck drivers and any other persons stranded.

My husband put the heat lamp on in the chicken coop.

Those winds are crazy/nasty. That's awful. I get scared when the winds reach 50m/hr. In Nolalu here, we are currently --23 feeling like -31 according to the Weather Network. It's coldddd!!!! I guess I'm just not use to it, as it is January it should be expected. I just keep thinking, ah less than two more months and it will be March. Springtime!!!! I have to think positive.

I know that a new bridge was needed on the highway near Nipigon, but why that type of bridge with cables was built is beyond me. It was already knowledge that this bridge built in B.C. was a hazard. The snow and ice build up on the cables and then fall on vehicles going through it.

I thought I misheard, the Detour for broken bridge North of Thunder Bay thru Duluth?
I have been to both places and couldn't imagine that was right, but apparently that is indeed the way to go.
12hours aded to a truckers trip thru winter weather must be hell on wheels.
Funny how Romans were able to build bridges that are still standing and it's hard to miss the fact that all the new bridges using all the modern technology and tools have a tendency to fall down at least once, before they are completed.

Quess we have to go back to horses to use like in olden days bridges didn't need to be so well built . From what I heard had nothin to do with the cables , road part of bridge came apart where meets the Hwy . Usually a moveable part back & forth to handle stress. Luck

It ended up going down to -25 feeling like -33 with the wind chill. The unfortunate people that have to work outside in this. I thought that my husband wouldn't have to work today, as when it gets this cold they usually don't unless there is an emergency. He is an arborist, cuts/trims trees below the hydro lines.
