Good Morning!

Post by Ontario Chick » Fri Apr 14, 2017 12:06 pm

Congrats on EVERYTHING :)
Sounds like a fun weekend at your place.
I am having a Racoon trauma, apparently we have a resident raccoon who works a day shift, the chicken run is about 1/4 of an acre fenced with 4' fence that barely slows him down, watched his now twice, 1PM cross 3 fences and saucer on...
Yesterday let the Ameraucanas out, the only group that has a rooster in it and while I am babysitting see the raccoon on the outside of the fence, so in my usual completely ineffectual way, I yell wave my arms and run towards the fence, at which point he climbs the fence towards me, when he is on top of it I pick up a stick and throw at him, so he makes a turn worth an Olympic gymnast right atop the fence and leaves.
Unfortunately the chickens are spread evenly over the run and it's pretty obvious the raccoon would have picked up a hen, before the rooster would ever noticed anything.
So back on full alert and pitchforks strategically placed around the perimeter, but I think I need a sharpshooter friend! KB ? ;)
Ready for the Big Spring Barn Clean-out , looking forward to opening everything and let the sunshine in :)
Have a nice Easter Bunny Weekend! ;)

I'd be sittin there with a beer and a 22 and a Tom Clancy novel. Either that or a trap and you drop them across the river. The Ottawa River is 1km wide or more. Lots of people catch a critter and drive them across and let them go (when nobody is watching). Squirrels, raccoons, you name it. The Champlain Bridge (also known as Island Park Drive) had a Chinese restaurant on an island in the middle and it got busted in the 1950's for serving cat as chicken.

Afternoon all!! Of all the strange things i can do, raking is one of them. Its slow and tedious but doable! Hubby has been spreading manure and i have been cleaning up the asparagus ptch if all the dead tops from last years crop. Just need to load them into the atv trailer (hubby will help with that) and light a fire lol. Also cleaned around one patch of chives and raked up a lot of the balsted corn leaves that blow in from the field. Need to move a rooster between pens upstairs and then evict the starlings from under the lid of the propane tank again. Such a beautiful day!!!

We went to the lions breakfast in strathroy this morning. Ooooo yummy. And now i totally plan on getting sunburnt lol puttering around the place doing little things as i am able to. Physio is really helping me to get some strength back again and get my body moving properly. I am finally able to balance and stand on one leg now....not bad given i could barely stand on 2 4 months ago!! Whoohoo. Turkeys still hatching. 4in the brooder riht now....love their little wheep wheep sounds....and i hear another in the incubator upstairs....

Will post photos in a while...when i get them
hope everyone has a wonderful day! OC if we were closer i would so take care of your coon problem.....

Lovely pups!
Went canoeing on the Rideau this am. Very peaceful and we could explore some side criques that you normally can't get to the rest of the year because of low water. A few red eared sliders and loads of ducks. Ospreys are back too!

Nice sunny day here today. Let our 5 guinea fowl out today for tick control. Four turkeys go out in the process, caught two, but my black and my slate turkey hens are still wandering around my backyard. Hopefully I can get them back in this evening.

Just weighed my 2 culled turkeys that will be our dinner guests tomorrow, both 10 month old jakes. The Beltsville x Artisan Gold 17.5 pounds, the Beltsville, who has always been kind of small, 15.5 pounds. They will both have a place of honour next to each other in the oven.

Happy Easter to all!!

hi all! morning is grey and rainy again....
Dean, those puppies are sooo cute! hard to believe they start that small and get THAT BIG!

happy easter everyone!
easter bunny thankfully only left a couple of presents. :-)

got a lot done in the garden yesterday, and today, i am happy to say, i feel like i worked muscles that haven't been worked in a long long time. it's going to be a slow day....but it doesn't feel bad, so it's all good! looks like 7 of the 10 turkeys so far. yesterday was day 28, and there was still one hatching when i went to sleep, and i haven't checked yet...but the incubator is peeping again, so chances are....

oh yay! thunderstorm! better get off the computer. hope everyone has a wonderful day!
