Hmmmp. The gov't weather map has a lightning map but of course its not working.

The lead speaker at the EOMF woodlot conference in Kemptville was a gov't weather guy. He talked quite a bit about lightning and showed a safety video about it. Stay away from walls and windows, stay off the landline phone, and don't do dishes. A lady in Ottawa died last year doing dishes.

Good day! Cluster flies, only purpose I can see in life, is to buzz around and ping off your light bulb when your trying to read in bed. Then, their second job is to ping/bounce off the ceiling so that the cobwebs fall on your face. They live and die for that. I especially love it when they get inside the covering for the lamp, so I can cover it with a book or something. Wondering all the while, when it will fry and stop buzzing so I can take the book/paper off to prevent a fire.

I hate them with a passion, and knock on wood, I have only had ONE, ONE in the bedroom, and its been hanging around the plant lights. As soon as MY light goes out, it high tails it 'to the light' in the other room, lol.

I caved and started incubating turkey eggs. What a sap I am. I should not even consider NOT even thinking of not turning the incubators on. We all know it is a illness.

I am turning each nice rooster in and out with the girls every day. Each gets a day and a night. I figure that way, they won't wear out. I actually saw one being successful this morning. They've been practicing all last week I guess. The girls are just starting to accept them, but the one this morning, made a real squawk, protesting him, but allowing him. Funny.

Stacked some wood this morning, while my 'bread' rose... and then brought inside some maple syrup that somebody burned. Its actually delicious, and will make yummy butter tarts. I like the darker thicker stuff anyway, although this stuff has more of a hint of a bitter taste.

trees haven't really ran this past week much... not cold enough at night. Haven't had snow in forever either. I think trees like snow covering the ground.

Well.... off to clean the kitchen. 'partying' with Colleen and her hubby tonight!

The red maples in my backyard have opened buds today, so I'm sure the sugar maples aren't far behind. If this continues, we could see lush green before the end of April! I for one will not complain, well, except about my tax dollars going to environment Canada for predicting a long, cold snowy winter. I'm going to hunt out a local astrologer to get my weather forecasts from, they have just as good a chance of being right.

What? You take a full winter's weather as gospel? Then I have some swampland in Florida to sell you. The only weather they can be accurate on is 5 days. And its all I need. Do I cut the hay today and will I get it baled in two days?
Heck, I don't even need that as I don't do hay anymore.
I'll give you a prediction. If the trees bud out now...they'll flower in early April then get slammed with a frost in April. Another year where the fruit and nut trees get hammered.

Good morning!
Crisp and sunny here, bit of a skating ring in the driveway, hope it melts soon.
Completely missed that PTO has not only passed the 700 members, but also broke a previous record of most members on line yesterday, :congrats2: :iheartpto:

No, I don't even take daily forecasts as gospel If they predict a cm of rainfall over night, and we get five instead, I think heads should roll I don't think people should get paid to make guesses. Study environmental sciences, yes, but come back when you have real answers. If I worked in a factory making pants, and kept making the waistband 2 inches off, I'd be fired ;)

Yep, weather forecasting has so many "micro" elements. Up here the weather follows the Ottawa river and Quebec will get rained on and we get nothing. Or the weather will get pushed around Calabogie and it'll follow the hills to Smiths Falls and we get nothing.
hills, rivers, and lakes will do that. I know folks near Trenton and they get a foot of snow and 5 mins away get nothing.

Good morning all, been AWOL for a loooong time I know, lots of family issues the last of which was my father in law passed away tow weeks ago after a long fight with COPD. We will miss his help out in the hayfields this coming summer....always ready to jump on a tractor and drive ....even at almost 85 years young. When he could no longer hitch and unhitch the haybine he bought another tractor to keep it hooked up...he was dedicated!
My chicks from last summers hatching for the grandbabies are starting to lay....the brightest blue to olive to pink....wont need egg dyes this year, lol. Found a few silver laced wyandott pullets for sale in the neighboring town and trying to convince myself I have enough layers....as I clean the hovabator to set eggs this morning. I don't have WHITE eggs....do they lay white??? my resistance is getting weak and if I knew they layed white it would be gone. I have the pullets penned up and all the young roosters prowling around the barns...lots of fighting going on outside the hen house. Have wanted to take those little roosters to the local small animal sale for weeks now but always something else pops up on a Saturday afternoon....they are getting really annoying at 3 am sitting on the fence under the pole light trying to out-crow each other.....but the a.m. barn checks will be starting soon and they make falling back to sleep almost impossible.....have at least 15 that need new homes. I have 3 pure black americauna boys with lovely green sheen to their feathers that will take care of my girls this year...was hoping for hens, their little pea combs had me fooled for awhile....but they are beautiful. Also keeping a crested cr legbar roo. The result of mating the black americaunas and cr cr legbars was a crested chicken that is black and white freckled like a barred rock but lays beautiful blue eggs. I lost one of my flower hens last fall, found her squashed between big bales sitting on eggs when we pulled bales out of the pole shed last month....she never did lay in the chicken house. Thinking maybe I'll pull my 2 silver laced barnvelders out of the henhouse and find a roo and raise a couple replacements for them...they are turning 4 this year....any ideas on how long hens lay? well I'm off to the barn, good to be back, Hayladee
