I've had to put the down, down.

Definitely an improvement this morning. Back to 100% cotton quilts.

I'm heading to the USA on Saturday for the day so I'm going to check out mulberry silk duvets there. I'm thinking I'll likely stick with cotton. It's worked for 47 years! Why mess with a good thing.

I have a very heavy handmade 100% cotton quilts and a light 100% cotton for the summer. But I shall see what these silk duvets are all about.

Cheers!

silk, all natural and sustainable! well, so was the down and I guess cotton as well but anyways. silk is manufactured from the cocoons produced by the silkworm. a great source of nutrition for many animals. :-)

there is an article in the recent Feather Fancier about bird fanciers lung, an alergic reaction to the oils on the birds feathers and the dust that comes off the bird. its produced from the preen gland under the base of the birds tail and is spread over the feathers with the birds beak while it preens. so basically the shinier the bird is the more oils are on its feathers. waterfowl would have a lot of oils because they need it to repel the water and keep them warm.

hmmm interesting.

all the best Sandy.

I just found the same article online, where the FF reprinted it from.

Thanks Al. Interesting read.

I found peanut and nut free and dye free budgie food and was contemplating getting a few budgies. With these down feathers annoying me, I have parked that idea.

We just had a cotton duvet on and my hubby was complaining of being cold, I too was cold. He asked me why I didn't have the silk duvet on, I slapped my head, I had removed it and washed it and forgot to put it back on. I put it back on and we both were finally warm. Great for summer and winter. Pricey 2-300 dollars but worth it!
By the way the cotton duvet was taken off ,we don't need both.

Hmmm I may need to look into this silk. I'm always boiling and would sleep with the window cracked...Hubby freezes all winter. Maybe this is a solution!

You can de alergize the down doovay by soaking it in turpentine, and its natural. Don't use paint thinner, its manmade chemical, not organic.
