Advice needed

I've done a bit of research on adopting some spent hens simply because it's something that would make me feel good. But I've decided that the logistics of doing so just isn't worth it for me-mostly for bio-security reasons listed above. Honestly my opinion is that the purchase of chickens will probably be one of the smallest costs in your start-up (if you're not going for a fancy breed right off the bat) so I personally would look for cost savings in other areas like building materials/feeders/waterers and just invest in good pullets or chicks to get you started. Less worry about what you may be bringing onto your property. Just my opinion.
