New year hatchery order

Post by baronrenfrew » Thu Nov 24, 2016 7:47 am

So I've beer perusing the idea of ordering birds from this hatchery. The chicks would be flown into Ottawa by Westjet. Shipping price is based on full boxes (100 chicks) and I don't need 100. This hatchery farm has breeds bred for production not show results: they are best known for their light sussex birds but the others look pretty good. I'd order for late March or April.

Emily is a terrific lady (another crazy geneticist!). I've never had them but all I hear are good reports about her birds. Her group were breeding back to the original production standards for heritage birds. I've also heard good reports of her caramel queens for layers.

If you order Light Sussex and grow them out; I may be interested in a cockerel. If we can arrange transportation.

Sigh...Next summer will be my last summer with chickens so it wouldn't make sense to order them...though I love the look of the Carmel Queens

Yes....we will be getting our backyard ready to be in selling condition. Apparently the whole world does not find chickens a large selling feature. :( why, I don't know because our next house will be small but the land and hopeful barn willl be gigantic for more chickens :)

I would be in for at least 25 Mistral Gris to try for meat birds.
