Good Morning!
Good morning!
Making my way slowly thru the Online Poultry Show comments by our eminent Judge, very interesting even the breeds I have never seen offer some insights, great fun, it will probably take me a week to work my way thru in when I have time.
Finally convinced my sons it's time to give up on adult gift giving, it sucks all the Joy out of Christmas for me, so Grandchildren only, makes it fun again.
Weather a bit crapish here all gray and drippy.
Good time to get back to Christmas cookie baking so I have some samples for "honored" guests coming on Monday.
Have a safe one!

Good Morning!
Good point, OC...a few years back my oldest came to us with a request/idea...she was having a hard time buying for everyone and reasoned (correctly) that often gifts were well intentioned but rather useless or unnecessary, so suggested we put all the guys names in a hat, all the gals names in another hat and each couple pick one name from each...and we all submit a wish list of reasonable gift ideas to everyone via email or group text...names picked were to be secret and children were not included, although so far there are no children in my family as yet...(Im going to be a really old grampa i fear, lol)..her reasoning was that this way, each couple only had two reasonable gifts to obtain and the stress and waste is relieved...everyone went for it and it has worked out well...and besides, its not the gifts that are the important thing are they?...its family, friends and fellowship...did I just say "fellowship"?...lol..sounding like the minister at the church that i don't attend...Ontario Chick wrote:QR_BBPOST Good morning!

Good Morning!
Good afternoon all!
Just had a wondeful visit with Al and Lizzie and the gang!! What an awesome bunch of kids!! Some grow out birds sent to help supplement the freezer and some layers so Lizzie can get hopefully 3 eggs a day now. Lol. My RIR boy is off to hopefully help and not hinder breeding plans...lol. and a young blue wheaten boy too.
My dogs are exhausted. Think they will sleep for a month!
Which is a good thing. Even the horses had fun! Apple and pats and ted just loves kids.
Got my feed store run done. Time to start cleaning pens. But first time to see if the shot shells for the 22lr do any damage to metal....i have to get those tweety birds out of the barn soon.
And some doorknob ran over my mailbox earlier this week so looks like i will have to go and fix that...we know exactly who it was - given the combine tracks come out of the field and right up to the mailbox...but nope. Denied...lol. at least thry didnt break it this time. So. Off to fix that first and then try out these 22lr tweety bitd shot shells....starlings beware....
Hope everyone has a great rest of their day!!

Good Morning!
Great idea OC, we stopped the adult gift exchange a long time ago, just the kids 18 and under now. It's takes some of the stress of the holidays away and back to the togetherness of Christmas.
Started doing my Christmas baking today, fruit cake is done, now onto some cookies. Hens have been laying so bad I had to go out and buy eggs
. Not from the grocery store but from my neighbor down the road. She lights her barn, I don't, not with the price of hydro!!
The house smells so good right now, here are the Christmas cakes before going into the oven.

Good Morning!
Bit ahead of you in both departments, had about 10 years ago changed to picking one name, then about 5 years ago the the "stealing system" , everybody brought one gift, numbers were picked and presents were picked in that order, either from under the tree or "stolen" from another person who already opened theirs. great fun for adults only, children excluded.TomK wrote:QR_BBPOSTGood point, OC...a few years back my oldest came to us with a request/idea...she was having a hard time buying for everyone and reasoned (correctly) that often gifts were well intentioned but rather useless or unnecessary, so suggested we put all the guys names in a hat, all the gals names in another hat and each couple pick one name from each...and we all submit a wish list of reasonable gift ideas to everyone via email or group text...names picked were to be secret and children were not included, although so far there are no children in my family as yet...(Im going to be a really old grampa i fear, lol).Ontario Chick wrote:QR_BBPOST Good morning!

Now since everybody is in different part of the country/world, that no longer works, so children only. :)
Also ahead of you in the really old grandparent. Spent years brainwashing sons in to not marrying before 30, what a thing to choose to actually listen to me.

Yes we had a really great time today Kathy and Martin! Thank you so much for having all of us over! the kids just had a blast with everything, they were occupied quite well! Emily played a very intense game of snakes and ladders with Martin. Martin should have had it but ended up sliding down a snake and Emily caught up and won the game! what a wonderful set up and such a nice place you guys have there! your birds are VERY nice! its like a poultry paradise and your horses are magnificent! :-D
I think we picked up 16? birds, hmmm i didnt count the grow outs. I got them all set up and they are happy with there new place. thanks again! the blue wheaten ameraucana sure is something else, really pretty, I havent had a bird like him before. hes going to cover all my blue laying hens to make some more blue layers next year. Excellent, I cant wait.
And of thank you for the delicious lunch and the boat load of goodies as well, we really were not expecting all that! WOW!!! you guys are so awesome!
You all have a good night!

Good Morning!
morning everyone!
well, another grey blustery wet morning! could have stayed in bed i must admit.
Don't forget to get your votes in for the picture of the month! voting closes soon i think!
not much happening here...just getting going on the presurgery "get the house cleaned up and catch up on all the work that i have been procrastinating about!"....the list is getting smaller. 10 birds go to their new home this weekend and that's the final bird moving out for now. then finishing the front on the turkey pens....and the "lid"-putting bird netting over the top (the pens are 12 feet tall!), and then cleaning turkey pens (only 2 of them) and shovelling out the outside coop (it's empty and just needs the shavings out). found out there are 2 new cats in the area (aka my barn) that i have not seen before, an orange tabby and a really young looking part persian that looks all the world like a dumped cat....young, skinny, looks in the door meowing....sigh. if i see them in the next few days i may try to trap them and at least get them spayed/neutered and vaccinated....but the orange one will need chainmail enclosed vets for sure!
Congrats to everyone that participated in the show! it was such a huge success that i think it's fair to say we will be doing this again at some point (maybe not in the worst moulting time of the year).
have a great day everyone!!!!

Good Morning!
Hey folks, things didn't go quite as planned but our baby boy was born via c section last Thursday afternoon. He weighed in at 6 lbs 7 oz and both baby and Momma are doing well. We were still at loggerheads over his name up until yesterday. Chantelle wanted Charlie and I wanted Levi, so we went with Benjamin :) If I can figure out how to post photos here I'll share my favourite of Ben and his big sister.
