Sorry to hear about losing your chickens, that's how my flock got decimated when I had chickens many years before. It's such a downer :-(

Rhonda wrote:Thank you Sandy for your very generous offer! Very nice of you. Unfortunately I do not have an incubator! I know, shocking. My background is in dogs so always felt there was no point in a newbie like me breeding for pet quality birds when I have no idea what I am doing and don't have the facilities to keep roos separate from each other. Once I catch the bugger and figure out how to weasel proof my old horse barn I will buy some more. Nothing in the traps two days now so this guy may be trickier than the last. may have moved on now that there is nothing to eat. hope it doesn't find its way in to the hen house, but I think it is predator proof.

Now one of my layers is wheezing like crazy. Hubby did feed and water for me the last two days and said he thought one hen hadn't gotten off the roost at all. Think she may be too far gone to save.
When it rains it pours :( Too far gone for VetRX? I think it's KB or OC that said that's what they use? Turmeric, garlic, rubbed oregano is where I go. Although I do have VetRX on standby.

I don't have an incubator either ... I'd plan to keep it that way. Well I have silkies so that's kind of cheating haha!

Bummer. I'm sorry eggs won't work for you... But maybe someone can hatch them out for you?? If that doesn't work, You have FIRST dibs on Silkie chicks when/if they arrive!!!

What kind Of dogs? I'm in the market come Feb-ish. I do have a preference for GSD's.

Thanks everyone. The offers to incubate some eggs is very tempting, I have always hesitated to hatch my own as I am not set up to deal with multiple roosters, so have always just bought some pullets. Will think on things. Baronrenfrew when you are driving down Dwyer Hill Road, a left hand turn onto Copeland would take you to my place. Where does Carla work?

Stopped at the local feed store today and no VetRX. Still wheezing but seemed chipper enough today. She is still eating and drinking. Will go farther afield on Saturday for some meds if she is still hanging in. I asked the feed store to get me some so I have it on hand next time.

Ross, I am not sure that ventilation is the issue. being such a warm winter the birds have been free ranging since the last of the kale was harvested. I have a 10x10 shed for them with a large window opposite a man door and the chicken hatch. All have been wide open for a few weeks. They were only closed in on the snowy day and the window was still wide open. left the door open yesterday and today hoping it would help her breath. Going out to clean out the house shortly but it was emptied out just before Christmas. hard to know what is up, never had a wheezy bird before, 8 in there now have kept birds in the same setup for 10 years, usually a dozen at a time.

Dwyer Hill Road starts in Arnprior and is as quick to Richmond as going through Stittsville (no traffic, one set of lights) so we can go by anytime. She's the rev at St Paul's United so she's in there three days per week and most Sundays.

We're all enablers around here... you want 5 chickens, we'll make sure you get 50 :farmer:

Rhonda, I have some VetRX if you need it.
It's been so damp around here this past while, and she may be one of those birds who have an extra sensitive respiratory system. VetRX may just do the trick. You're lucky that your feed store will order it in for you. I asked at the one I used to frequent, and they told me they didn't do special orders, unless it was a bulk purchase. I always get mine from Glen (feather fanciers) when he sets up at local BSTs.

Ventalation is not just a window open . That's like trying to bring water into a water pump & then back out again using the same hole/line
It really gets mixed up .
Best Ventalation is fresh dry air in bottom of pen , stale moist warm air out top , peak or gable ends as high as you can go . These can be used top & bottom .Moist stale air rises .Critters have bronchial problems in moist stale air . Luck

Anyone know how I can get in touch with Rhonda besides PM? All my PMs are getting stuck in my outbox, not getting sent. I'm trying to arrange to drop off some VetRX to her while I am still in the area this evening.

Thank you Jaye I did get your messages. Just as I was posting my last post at 4 the neighbours stopped in. I ended up inviting them to stay for supper and they just left at 1030 so I never got back to the computer. really appreciate all your effort to reach me, so sorry I did not respond.
