I've seen a video of them, looked really neat!
I showed this video to my Mum who is in LTC in Kingston and she thought it was fun, but me and one of the care workers wondered who gets to clean up after the chickens! We all know how much fun having chickens and turkeys in the house is!!

I wondered about that as well, because my girls certainly don't try to not poop everywhere! a big reason i don't let 50 of them free range my lawn anymore, the poop on the patio and chairs and picnic table and walkway was silly. although my grass is the most beautiful it has EVER been since i moved in.....
and the floor in that place was spotless in the film.

i hope someone thinks about a therapy chicken while i'm in hospital getting my back fixed....although i might be okay with just a photo if i can't get out of bed yet....or a video feed from the barn. LOL. i have a really friendly turkey...could be very funny LOL

My lap turkeys don't poop when they're sitting on your lap. As long as you keep stroking they usually fall asleep.

Now if I could find some turkeys like that it just might change my mind about turkeys!

I remember seeing a documentary or something about that... they started by hatching the eggs in an incubator, then brooding the chicks, growing them up and into a coop to produce eggs that they ate. it was wonderful! the entire process brought joy to everyone involved and i thought it was just awesome! they also had vegetable gardens and fruit trees! ect, all of it was takin care of by the residents and used in the kitchen. it was like a win win win win win situation.

You need some Beltsville Small Whites! mine are the exact same way. they are the absolutely most perfect homesteading turkey for so many reasons. too friendly, annoyingly friendly sometimes. I had to chase 3 of them out of my garage like a dozen times today!

Lol @thegawd could you use that argument on my hubby? I swear all he hears is Charlie Brown's teacher's voice when I talk about birds "mwa mwaaaa mwaaaa".
