I'll let poultry admin explain but briefly Modern 17 has agreed to judge poultry online using photos you submit. This is serious and critiques will be given. Check out the Online show section and get your birds ready. More info to follow.

don't think there's much to add there from what KB said! It's our first online virtual show-prepare your bird like if you were travelling to a show in person, and then photograph and in the fall show topic under shows we will open up the entry forms, and you just fill in the form online, add your photo and Troy LaRoche has agreed to judge and give constructive criticism about the quality of the bird.....one person can enter one (their best bird) into each class, but it is a serious show-not a show for the cutest or fuzziest or whatever, but will be judged as though this was an in person show. we haven't finalized the dates that the show will run-waiting on schedules and time for a couple of the folks involved in the "behind the scenes" organization and Troy's time in his busy schedule with all the fall fairs etc. We will keep posting in the announcements at the top of the screen (that annoying yellow box that you can click away once you've read it) as we get closer to the time.
Ducks, chickens, turkeys, guineas....bantam and large fowl.....young and mature (but not chicks).....

Will get to work to put up the rules BUT Only one picture of each bird, you are responsible for selecting the best. We MAY limit it to one bird in each category so poor Troy doesn't get swamped e.g. Chicken bantam - possible 4 entries to cover sex and age category. Again you are responsible for selecting your best bird in each category.

oh and the registration is just that a person must be a registered user of PTO in order to enter (at least that's my understanding).

What's this ONLINE Poultry Show about?

Post by poultry_admin » Wed Oct 19, 2016 6:02 pm

PTO ONLINE show is a true poultry show with a real judge and judging to standards of perfection!

We have some last minute adjustments, but what we can say is this:
- This online show is a show like any other show you put your bird to in person. It will be judged by a real judge and there will be feedback to the bird with the intent to further your breeding program. It will be honest, direct feedback!
- The judging is final.
- THIS IS NOT A CUTE PICTURE CONTEST! The birds entered will be measured against their relevant poultry standards to the best of the judges abilities. => If you can't handle the potential feedback (i.e. "This breed is not supposed to have feathers on their legs therefore the bird is disqualified."), enter the picture in the picture of the month contest instead! We WILL moderate bickering and heckling at a much higher standard then anywhere else on this forum.

If this didn't scare you , but are rather thinking this is exactly what you want to enter and are hoping for, here are the details:
- everyone registered at PTO is eligible to submit a picture of the bird
- entries start on Oct 24th
- you will be able to submit in different categories
- birds need to be in your possession at the time of entry.
- the same bird is only allowed to be entered once.
- the picture can't be more than 1 month old.
- entries are free
- Prizes: bragging rights
- Categories: large and bantam chickens, turkey, guinneas, goose, duck. Sorry, no pigeon category this time round, we need to find a judge for that....
- have a look at the bird prep and picture taking topics in the ONLINE Show category.

I know I am being direct and candid about the first three points (feedback, judging is final and heckling) because we are happy to have @modern17 volunteer to be our judge. We want to make the show a success for everyone. You as exhibitors AND @modern17 as judge. We would like to have a repeat some time next year and hopefully do such a good job that other judges are stepping forward as well allowing us to expand. Our combined effort as exhibitors, judges and admins will make or break this. I think we all agree: WE WANT MORE!!! :chores:
Let's make this a pleasant experience for everyone!

So ... You can enter more than one bird? But in different categories, is that right?

Correct!

We are finalizing the details about more than one bird in a single category. Wait a bit with that one.

WOW ~ this sounds Exciting!!!!!

I have always been too afraid to put a bird in a live show, as I don't want to bring home any disease.
This might do the trick.

TOTALLY "get it" NOT a CUTE poultry show.....this is the REAL DEAL....makes it even More intriguing (*o*)

Thanx for all the info everyone!
