Good Morning!

good morning everyone! i sure hope that all the folks with critter problems had a safe night!
got up with the dogs barking....hubby already left for work, and fed the dogs and decided i will shaking like crazy i'd just lie down again for a minute or two....2 hours ago...argh! guess i needed it! still shaking but feeling a tad more human than before!
opened up the barn. had a really hard frost again last night. burnt the morning glories that are right against the house relatively sheltered between the house and shop. so i guess we're into fall! patio pots are done now too...so time to clean up outside. that will be a weekend job.
getting some garlic from clawton! yay! he's dropping some off sometime today, and then a few more birds out the door tomorrow....some pen cleaning and moving birds, and a final pre-winter mite dusting since i've seen the starlings up there again in the loft - gah! i'm going to go nuts with the wire and the spray foam soon! finished up the skirting on the one side of the pool. so that is DONE. just have to fuss with the front skirting, and install the cover-the tracks are up and the cover is ready to pull into the rails...next time i'm in the pool that is going to happen!
hope everyone has a wonderful day!!!!

Good Morning,
I have finally recovered from Norfolk Fair and it's time to get back to normal, around here. I have apple juice on the stove cooking and the big canner is heating up, carrots in the oven drying. It's warm and cozy in here and it smells awesome too. I ended up with 7 little red sexlink chicks after the fair so I have a bunny cage with 7 fuzzy butts in my living room (way better to watch then TV). My birds are all moulting and have pretty much stopped laying except for my silkies. They look good and are laying up a storm. Found out my Mom is a bone marrow match for my Aunt, so they start that process at the end of this month. I'm so proud of my Mom for doing this. I didn't have time to celebrate Thanksgiving this year, but sure do have a lot to be thankful for. I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Good morning!! Its looking to b a nice day. We have had two light frosts.... well, on the roof tops.. nothing that bothered the gardens. They are looking better than ever! The peppers and tomatoes would have been the first to show frost... and they are still bursting/busting with fruit. I was even picking strawberries and raspberries the other day! Theres even plenty of new cucumbers, some with flowers still on them. The middle of October!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't been outside yet... working towards that. Put some laundry in... want to hang it. Want to finish some grass cutting, or start more.... before babysitting at nearly 1pm. Dave has a safety workshop most of today. Jess has to work from this aft... to close.

Been enjoying some squash bread I made abit ago.. keeping it in the fridge so it doesn't mould as fast. Love having a quick grab for breakfast with a coffee!!

I think I will clean the house sometime this weekend... maybe empty a freezer half full with old crap in it.. and get rid of it. I've been here since 1984... and this freezer has been here long before me. I tell ya... the old stuff is the best stuff, but I'm sure the hydro it sucks is not so best. I've been wanting to do this for a long time. I do like it tho.... it holds stuff like unused milk replacer, which bags are big...or big half bags of dog food...dead cats... stuff like that. But we have 4 big chest freezers. Duh. Don't need that many! One in the basement is full of MY veggies/some beef... buns... chickens.. stuff like that, and the outside ones have ground beef in them, we sell. Although it could be put all into one.... almost. Going to work on that too, as soon as a little more beef goes out. Just don't like to cover up some of the stuff in the bottom. Never seems to get used.

Well, I guess I'd better go turn out the lights. My computer is doing supid things, like freezing occassionally. Got AVG running. Maybe thats why. Good time to get going! Broke down with the combine again yesterday. Don't know what kind of a fix thats going to be. Big or little. Involves a cylinder that tilts the head. Could be an expensive one. Figures... last payment was made a few weeks ago.

Oh well.

Good morning! Had another chilly night here. Heard the furnace running throughout the night, which means I should probably start bringing some wood in the house and get the woodstove going instead. The heavy frosts last weekend put an end to the gardens, so this weekend will be the start of cleanup. Got the garlic order in the mail this week and will have to get that in the ground. Good thing the straw is coming today.

Might move the red palms out of quarantine and into the main coop tomorrow - depends on how much of a headache I feel like dealing (because my other turkeys are sure to cause a headache). My better half has fallen for these red palms and has already threatened the other turkeys should they decide to be jerks when getting introduced. Good thing they can all be in separate pens to start. The meat turkeys go to be processed next Friday. I've enjoyed having them around, but I'll be glad to have a few less birds to worry about.

Have a huge list of chores for this weekend, but I heard whispers of stopping at our favourite ponds to do some crappie fishing. If that happens and the fish are biting, that will put an end to any productivity for the day!

Have a great weekend!

Funny thing with freezers. There are 2 of us and no family. I have the upright and 2 chests. Most of the time I only need 2 but sometimes ( veg and bird processing) I really need all 3 LOL!

Glad the reds are doing well argosgirl!! We have had 3 hravy frosts now. Time to collect seed from the perennials. My veseys order came in so planting some fall bulbs too. Need to cut seed heads off butterfly weed...stuff like that. And coop cleaning.

4 of my rhode island reds are headed out today along with one of my young cockerels hopefully. Still havent got my turkey pens up...posts are in....

Hooe everyone has a great weekend!!

Good morning!
Enjoyed reading people counting freezers, Gill, l your's sound exactly like my son's in Yukon, I think when the local food bank runs out of meat they call him ;)
I am in the reduction mode here, couple of years ago we got rid of the big freezer when it expired and replaced with a small one, which is where we started out in the seventies, life is indeed circular.
Lots of stuff gets stored in cold storage, I like the fact it doesn't cost anything to run :)
Garden definitely finished here, pulled tomato plants yesterday, although the one in the chicken run is still going strong protected by the barn, spotted couple red tomatoes there, will steel them when the chickens aren't watching.
Have a great and sunny wknd!
