Propane. Electric. Carbon Tax.

Sandy-I am 100% sure i would get cold LOL

darned if we do, darned if we don't. Might be time to move....
we run propane in the house, that will not change. we also need electric for the fences, water trough deicers etc etc. we have a woodstove, which is wonderful....glad we have one and kept it up in good condition. that provides most of our heat for the winter. thinking of which, we need to get our wood! we gave up on cutting a couple years back when my back got buggered. maybe we will in the future again, but for sure not this year or next!!!!

eventually they will bankrupt enough people that people will move away from the province and they'll figure it out...can't tax anyone if there's no one left to tax!

I don't mind the cold, or winter for that matter..but my body doesn't perform well when chilled...things go rather slow...and Sandy, if you lived as an 'Eskimo' better get used to chewing seal blubber raw....

Hopefully we grow a set ...problem is most folks believe Gov & taxes will/can solve global warming . Out here in the country the came along & cut down trees all along the road for a huge Galvinzed power line & cut trees & bush to build Wynnemill sites & power station sites & any large trees in front of homes they cut tops off or trimmed one side to clear lines . Refer to pic . Luck pic of our dog when she was in " no eat/chase chicken training when first got here . Can't seem to delete it :-)

Propane. Electric. Carbon Tax.

I did a bit of digging when we installed our propane furnace.

Math Involved
Which one is cheaper? Electricity or Propane?
For us 1kWh or electricity costs 25cents (total $ divided by total consumption)

Propane costs ~70cents/liter
One liter of propane has the same energy content as 7.5kWh of electricity (when used for heating = resistive load for techies).
So that's ~9.2 cents/kWh.
=> we purchased a propane furnace.

Now the CO2 tax of ~$30/ton is being discussed for 2030, starting at $15-$18 and increasing. How much does that add?
There are approx. 0.7lbs of CO2 emissions per kWh of propane. Or 5.25lbsCO2/liter. For a 1000liter fill that's 5250lbs of CO2 = 2.38 ton. 2.38 tons @$30 is $70 extra for the fill of a standard size tank. Since we pay $800 to $900 already, I am using an adder of $100 for the rest of the calculation to be save.
So now we have increased the propane cost by 1.3cent/kWh to 10.5cent/kWH.
We have still done the right choice with propane. It's still much cheaper than heating with electricity.
