Good Morning!

Post by Bayvistafarm » Sun Oct 09, 2016 1:43 pm

OMG... I just put the woodstove on.... I can't believe it!! Freezing in here. And, I've had the oven on all morning, and still! First, I baked a butternut squash, and made 2 loaves. Then mixed up some cookie batter, and now I'm baking cookies!! NO one is home today, the guys are at the fair... they are helping at the saw mill for the logs/demo... and I think I heard Gary home with the tractor and wagon... maybe they needed more logs?

Its a nice bright sunny day. Going to frost tonight, maybe... so want to go pick more squash. The ones not covered by weeds/grass. Maybe get some peppers too.

It will be nice to put the garden to bed. Soon I will plant the garlic. Probs this week. Going to be a good one for it.

Frost last night here so dug the sweet potatoes-got a few nice ones but something had already dug up the plants!! Probably a skunk or coon. Then pcked peppers and basil...going out for sage shortly. Bussel sprouts are almost ready. Picked 5 plants...

Soaking out any critters...
Found another cauliflower too. So that will go with dinner tonight.

Molly is limping again...sigh found where she split so got it all gooped up with anti-trush stuff. It will abscess i am sure. Sigh. Horses.

Raining off and on and that wind sure is chilly! But not a bad day at all. Better go get the sage before i forget or have a nap...
Have a great sunday everyone

Good Morning!

Well, in about 5 more hours I get to spend what's left of the Thanks Giving long weekend with my family. Got forced onto 12 hr day shifts at work last week and this is my first weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun) on the new schedule. Very much missing being with my family but don't have a choice in the matter right now.

Had a single puppy from our Maremma 21/2 weeks ago and she's HUGE! Getting all the milk from momma with no competition from other pups. A gal who works with my wife sometimes breeds Golden Retrievers and currently has a one month old litter. She told us earlier this week that our 2 week old puppy is bigger than her 4 week old puppy's- I mean she's literally the size of a rugby ball right now! She has been given the name Chunk :)

On a similar note, Chantelle feels like she's going to explode and our baby isn't due for 7 more weeks. It's not stopping her from getting stuff done with the horses every day, but it's definitely slowing her down. A couple weeks ago she could still wrap legs, but not so much anymore. Emily is getting excited about becoming a big sister and I'm preparing for a couple more years without sleep.

Anyway, that's it for break time. Hope everyone is enjoying as much time with their families this weekend as they can.

Prost!

Just wanted to let you all know.. The gov't is passing a law end of this year that disallows you to buy and give antibiotics to animals without vet script... So unsure if TSC etc will stop selling abx over the counter without a script or what..

I recommend stocking up now, if you are so inclined..

I remember they trying to do this eons ago now. AND you had to complete a course and get a certificate to be able to use and administer drugs to animals. A friend and I did the course, and then they scrapped it. Cost me $50. If any of this crap comes around again, I THINK I kept that thing... I hope, lol. NOT that it would do me any good now, its got to be 15 years ago at least!

Good afternoon everyone!
Hubby and i put 34 cockerels to the freezer this morning. Lots of work but worth it.
This afternoon will be harvesting mint and spearmint and oregano and savory. And then seeing if i can get some seed off the morning glories. Also need to get garden beds ready for bulbs coming next week.

What a gorgeous day!!! Went hunting yesterday-closest stand to the house and saw a nice doe but no shots. She hung out for about 45 minutes too. She knew something was "not quite right" lol so never came out. Smart girl.
The crank cocking aid is fantastic. Was a beautiful evening. This weather can stick around for a few months...lol

"This weather can stick around for a few months...lol"
 aye, i'll have a toast to that!
Hey, wait a sec, isn't this what winter is like in Georgia or Louisiana or South Carolina? I went golfing one January in Myrtle Beach, and this was the weather! One morning had a heavy frost but it helped my game as balls would skip over the water hazard instead of splashing in!
