Retiring The Coops

Post by Skinny rooster » Mon Oct 03, 2016 11:39 pm

I hear you Sandy, in the same boat in a lot of ways that's why the rest of mine will be gone by the fifteenth. I just never have time and things keep piling up. Some things changed for me and I could have kept them until spring but what's the point of keeping them over winter so I decided to stick with the plan. Look at the positive side, you will have some extra independence and it will help you get your feet back on the ground. Sorry to hear you had to make this decision as well. Best of luck.

That's a sad thing, Sandy, but understandabl. I find it hard to find the extra time that i want to spend with my birds outside of the care routine daily. Work has ramped up crazy here and it just demands my attention. Some days it just a crazy rush to get them tended to properly and even though i manage, I would still like to attend to their needs more. Glad you found good places for them though and I hope you stay here, to at the very least keep us amused and on our toes.

Glad you're sticking around! It's funny when you put it like that but yes even my little flock takes a lot of time to care for properly. I'm fortunate in that I'm at home and able to take care of them and the vegetable growing but if I wasn't I'd be seriously downsizing. Glad to hear you have a new business venture and lots of work. Without that you can do nothing. Good Luck for the future.

Actually I feel much of the same pressure. I have time in summer but not autumn /winter. I might wind up keeping birds on a seasonal basis. Chicks in spring, in freezer by fall. But I'd miss my songbirds too much. I had Rouen ducks this spring (bought in Feb sold in May)...my gosh I loved their quacking!

I am bit behind reading this............

Sandy I am so sorry you had to come to such a hard decision like this but totally understand where you are coming from and have to do what is best for you!!! It is A LOT of work keeping critters. I work outside of the home plus hubby has his own business which I do the books and have home and yard to care for, I have been keeping chickens for 24 years and every year think I should retire the coops............

If you need a chicken fix you can come on up the mountain for a cuddle (not far from BVF) :smilewithrooster:
