Retiring The Coops

Well. The time is here. I'm retiring the coops for at least a few years.

I have Easter Eggers (all pullets), cream legbars (3 pullets and 1 cockerel), 2 barred rock hens, 1 easter egger hen, 1 silkie with 4 barnyard mix 6 day old chicks, 6 muscovys and 3 Swedish ducks. If anyone is interested pm me.

Geez, I never would have guessed that you would retire from your poultry. This must have been a difficult decision for you, but they are a lot of work, especially in the winter. What about your ducks?

That's too bad, but you have to do whatever works best for you. Good luck with rehoming the critters. Don't forget, people come out of retirement all the time!

It was such a hard decision. I've shed many tears at the decision to rehome my flock, especially my ducks. Oh man, it just kills me .. No quackers each morning. It will be a really big adjustment for me.

Life is chaotic on a slow day and overwhelming to say the least every other day. I'm the type of person who needs to take premium care of my animals. I spend on average 2-3 hrs a day with them, making sure they have a clean home, herbs always refreshed in their nesting boxes,

tarp scrubbed down each day, litter refreshed and well, just making sure they are cared for to the very best of my abilities and they don't go without. Y'all know the work involved.

However, I'm on my own 95% of the time, working 60+ hours a week, upkeep of the home inside and out, despite all the hours I am putting in I'm still so far behind in all I need to do. I haven't gotten all my firewood done, so now I'm screwed half the winter ... It's just one thing after another. I have a new business venture to fund end of next year and for a few years into it so I've taken on another company's financials. MORE WORK. I can not put us at risk with being behind in paperwork, rev can really frowns upon that stuff, yet somehow the animals always take precedence and I continue to fall behind and barely meet deadlines. It's a whole lot of stress trying to balance things and it's not working. They all depend on me and I can't seem to find a balance that works.

Everyone has a new home and they are all going to wonderful homes, for that I am so grateful. Ok, I'm a blubbering mess now. My ducks leave tomorrow...very sad day
