Is this the norm now?

Post by Skinny rooster » Sun Oct 02, 2016 8:46 pm

My fridge kicked the bucket so I bought a new one at Rona. Tuesday it will be two weeks since I bought it and not only has it not been delivered yet, they can't even set a date to deliver it. I don't remember it taking that long in the past. Is this normal now? Has anyone bought an appliance lately, how long did you have to wait? I call and they say it's coming but two weeks or more, that seems awfully long.

I had that trouble trying to buy a freezer. They took the order and kept delaying and I had a heck of a job cancelling and getting one from somewhere else. You had to pay up front too.

Big box service or non service as the case usually is . Last appliances fridge & Elec dryer I bought from a small local area family business . Payed a bit more I'm sure great warranty by them & both in stock , both delivered & old ones taken away the next day . I never deal with big box stores on items like that .

It's normal ish but doesn't make it right. Complain publicly about the poor service on their Facebook page or Twitter, preferably both. They don't like have their social media accounts flooded with unanswered, unhappy customers so they have social media peeps connected directly to the company to resolve issues. This is the only way I've been able to resolve problems with Bell Canada despite emailing corporate, calling the call centre over and over, complaining at their stores, etc. I now avoid shopping at big box stores because of their abysmal customer service. Also had a horrible experience at Sears..

Hah, my mothers fridge was near death (14 degrees C doesn't keep food) and she wanted her new fridge to be white (stainless steel is so "in") and freezer on the bottom (a quality brand). She went to a big name store, Corbeil, they told her four days, then two weeks, then another two weeks so all in was four weeks! Apparently this "style" is in demand and made in New Zealand! Good thing we live in the same house (us in back, them in front) so our fridge did double duty (not like thats a big deal, we run out of coffee cream, or she needs spices). "White goods" used to be made in the mid states (Indiana I think) but now it comes from abroad.

Well sooo it will be three weeks tomorrow and still no fridge. I have to use a large cooler so I didn't bother taking any leftovers from my turkey dinner yesterday, thanks Rona. I got a call Thursday telling me that... no they don't have my fridge yet and no they aren't calling to make arrangements but that they are calling to tell me that they are going to call me. Ok am I on one of those shows that plays tricks on people? This is like a bad sitcom sketch.

Is rona the only place around you? I would cancel and buy elsewhere. It feels like service everywhere is goung downhill. We shouldn't feel so surprised when we actually get good service.

Perhaps a threat of cancelling an order would help?

I certainly wouldn't wait that long for a freaking fridge. That is kind of something you NEED! This isn't the freaking dark ages anymore. I would cancel and see if you could just buy one from somewhere, and take it home.

I'd get a cheap (or even free) old fridge off Kijiji as a backstop if i was stuck waiting in line. One local small retailer will lend people a fridge while they wait. The big retailers don't give a damn.
