winter "blahs": any cabin fever yet?
So winter finally showed up in the Ottawa Valley. Of course, given we had an extra two months of autumn, I'm still not ready (tractor fixed, have to hook up the snowblower in a few), so I guess that makes me more grasshopper than ant.
I had a thread about the winter "blahs": good ideas; hot tub, swimming, baking, indoor garden, more chickens (can't paint in the cold but you can build the things that need paint) etc.
the new Star Wars movie got us away from the wood stove and to the theatre...
any other ideas?
are you more grasshopper or ant?

Re: winter "blahs": any cabin fever yet?
I have plans to continue building stuff and then pain them put them in place when spring comes..... raised garden bed frames, some cedar planter boxes, new wooden brooder boxes, plus we are trying to finish our basement family room, which means drywalling and getting rid of junk.
Ice fishing, if we get enough ice. Making maple syrup.
Plan on building a couple weasel box traps today.
Lots of plans for the winter, if I get 1/2 done I will be in good shape.

Im a grasshopper haha whatch me bounce LOL. I guess I should go fix that rider n get it ready. im waiting for the darn ground to freeze in order to drive my truck tonthe bush and cut firewood. I was hoping to be able to do that today but noooooooooooo the field is pretty much a lake now and its well above zero. I might have to come up with another plan to get there as my stock pile is running out! maybe the rider with the chains on will do... small loads though.
keep on keeping on!

Never get winter blahs, but right now I have my new-to-me incubator disassembled for cleaning and sterilizing. I plan a test run in early January (eggless) to see how it works.
Way behind in paperwork and housework because of the long fall, in a way I'd be glad if winter really did come so I would HAVE to stay indoors.

Took the screen door on the patio down today!
Getting a bit blah because the turkeys keep trying to get me to stay out with them LOL! Roll on spring BUT we really need some water here. Just hoping we get enough snow to keep the garlic and bulbs safe.

I'm off to see star wars in the theater sometime this week.
havent been to a movie theater in...um....when did the FIRST lord of the rings come out? since then....LOL. OMG i just looked it up....2001....WOW, major partiers here huh?! I can guarantee i will not see midnight on new years eve either...
If anyone gets cabin fever-come here....there are a million plus things that need doing! LOL. it's always something...living on a farm....fencing needs tensioning, water troughs needing washing (i try to wait for spring and get the pressure washer out), sand needs to be moved into the one stall-i can guarantee that probably won't get done before the ground freezes LOL. the house seriously needs de-cluttering and cleaning. my plants all need repotting and prissing and dead leaf trimming, wood always needs bringing in. the barn can use daily sweeping LOL. we have a shed to tear down, another to empty and tear down, some stuff for the dump, fencing to install once the one shed is down, landscaping to plan. gardens to plan, seeds to buy, eggs to hatch, chicks to brood LOL. LOTS of things to do. no time to get cabin fever. plus i could stay home every day for a very long time before i get cabin feverish!

WL, I am looking at your list and getting tired. i am sure I was a Jamaican in my past life "Don't worry man, it'll get done... on island time."
I am not much of a gardener... yet. Thinking about a greenhouse.. Partially for chicken use.
Any suggestions?

Re: winter "blahs": any cabin fever yet?
Theres never ever a chance of cabin fever here. Too many animals... and always something to do.
The turkeys are doing their 'stand in one spot... and pretending they are on the hens'.. makes me laugh... and the hens ARE laying eggs now. Very tempting to fire up the incubator, but no.. I WILL resist. I haven't opened any to see if they're fertile. Maybe I'll have an omelet tonight, and check them then!
