It would be fun to set up a booby trap hive full of bald faced hornets.

Unfortunately if you did you could be sued by the thieves. That's what our Country is coming too.

Yeah, I don't know what to think of that, the hives were set up on outskirts of an unfinished subdivision in a scrub "no man land" situation, 2 hives on a pallet without any kind of protection, set up by people who are fairly new to bee keeping,, trying to make it in to a business, it's quite possible somebody felt these hives needed protecting/rescuing? Just saying.

I saw that on the news as well. Odd thing is that those people were featured just a few days before about their bee keeping business. I wonder if someone saw the interview and thought I know where I can get free hives. What is a hive worth now, I heard they are quite valuable. With the attitude of people these days, I am actually more shocked that they were leaving hives unattended around the area and shocked that this is the first time it's happened.

I was thinking, as i watched the newscast, that although its sad to have lost the bees, the location was just terrible...out there, unprotected...in what will be a construction zone for months and force the bees far out foraging for nectars...of course theres always more to any story ...hive boxes are just that...boxes...slight monetary value..no biggie, but a theft none the less...its the bees that are the loss...and perhaps the thieves didn't even know there were bees on board...not a reach really...just sayin'

Most of my hives are set off the beaten path. None the less I have game cameras set up at all of my bee yards. There are criminals in every walk of life. Sad but true. If you knew what you were doing, you could easily clear out someone's bee yard without anyone ever knowing.

I think some people just don't think. We lock up our wallets, but people leave a lot of property laying around unprotected. Thank god that as a whole we live in a country that is relatively safe.
