An elderly friend of mine had to sell their family cottage this year. They are childless and none of the family want it because of the hydro bills. For no one to be there all winter and one baseboard heater on low by the water tank or somewhere so pipes don't freeze her bills were $4-500/month. She's on a fixed income, pension, and was $3000 behind in the hydro bill at time of sale, with hydro cut off. She wrote to the news papers, MP's Wynn etc., and not one emailed her back.

Finally a newspaper, I think it was in Ottawa, finally published her story along with a dozen others. It didn't catch much wind because we are all dealing with it.

Shameful,

Tom I think you missed some words ;-) hydro is such a scam. Man I used to keep hundreds of reptiles, amphibians and other creepy crawlies. I had prolly 30 set ups and most had a hundred watt or greater bulb on them and I never seen a hydro bill like the one last winter. NOT EVEN CLOSE! and I dont keep any of those animals at all anymore. we get windmills and solar farms to "save the environment" and we pay for it with our hydro bills. hydo... the biggest scam in history!

ok back to incandescent light bulbs... they have been outlawed to save energy or some poop like that... BUT every street light is a 1400 watt high pressure sodium or mercury vapor bulb. its not about saving energy or hydro at all otherwise those street lamps would be outlawed aswell. its all about money, greed and control. now if those LED bulbs are really spy bulbs it all makes sense dosent it? or am I the only crazy one on here? ;-)

Cities are changing over to LED street lights. Slowly and after a lot of testing. Was involved with testing some to make sure they met MTO requirement (enough light, no glare, ...) Most new subdivisions being built now have them. Older streets are being changed as they burn out. The guy working for the city responsible for street lights needs to be convinced, each of them, one at a time before they change over. If they get it wrong they are on the hook personally. So no wonder they don't want to change. And especially if the city gets a good discount on their hydro bill because they buy so much. Why risk it?

Funny one side note: Japan had huge issues in winter 2014/2015 with LED traffic lights. Blowing snow would stick to them and not melt due to low energy consumption.
