#1 is exactly why I try not to go shopping. Hubby now does the groceries because I'm sure he'll have to bail me out one day!

As I sit at the fairgrounds I can totally vouche for my need for some jail time!

Ugh! Some person ranted to me about animal rights and this 'display' is the ultimate cruelty. Putting animals on display to make ourselves feel better and i tried to tell her it was educational - many chicken breeds, the opportunity to look at them, they come from wonderful homes etc. She wouldn't shut her fing mouth so I pointed to her young daughter all done up in Oshkosh, painted finger nails and hair ribbons etc., and asked if that made her daughter feel better or her?
Conversation ended on the spot.

Home time is around the corner .. Hopefully no more know-it-alls today..'I've got one nerve left and it's not gonna take much!

Good for you, Sandy. It's important that people understand we love our livestock and make sure they have a happy and healthy life.

Shows are an important component in helping people understand the diversity in birds. (ie. Not all chickens are white with red combs and yellow legs).

I was trying to get my two words in and explain that if it wasn't for dedicated folks, not the food industry heritage breeds would be an old wise tail (intential wrong tail used) and how most of us work diligently every day to ensure our poultry and farm animals exceed the typical industry standard. But Nooooo! She just talked over anything I had to say until my finger pointed to the little one and I asked my question ...
So frustrating and honestly, disappointing. If she was willing to hear 3 words I had to say maybe we could of had a good chat. But as Ross would say, you can't fix stupid, so I had to wrap it up.

I'm sure most of us have had to deal with ignorance when it comes to our birds.

I'm going to help out at our local library with some backyard chicken seminars. Figured I could enable educate people on the wide range of choices when it comes to chicken breeds.

The person setting up the seminars wanted to just talk about hatchery chicks (they didn't know you could get chicks/chickens anywhere else)

Redninja, that is so awesome. People truly are amazed at the varieties. I had a lot of people assume most weren't a 'chicken' because they didn't fit the Swiss chalet image. For instance, Nankins, Seabrights, Shamo, Moderns. They were shocked, and they lay eggs? What? LOLOLOLOL. And so many looked at the silkies and said what the heck are they? Do they have eyes? Haha! It was great to talk with people who truly were interested.

I walked into a

storm so it wasn't the best start to a shift, long story. Then had to deal with someone biting chunks of her Apple and putting in cages because the animals were STARVING in this inhumane environment. I repeatedly asked her nicely to stop feeding the birds and she just continued on like I didn't exist. Then I stood in front of her and said stop or I'll have security remove you from the fair. She grabs her kids and said ridiculously loud, this is why we are vegans kids, and I was soooooo close to saying animals

on your food while growing, thank those pigs on your way out....but I held it together. I really do impress myself sometimes. :)

After the wacko convention seemed to calm down, I turned my focus to the kids. So many have never been around chickens and were so curious. There were a few silkies there so I took them out and let the kids pet them and talked about them and sent them on their way with an egg that had been collected over the weekend. They thought it was sooooo cool! (Until I ran out).

We really did have a great turn out, was very busy. Most people were excellent, inquisitive and kind. So the rough start and morons inbetween I tolerated just because, you have to expect it, but I can get pushed too far and I was on the brink lol.

And people tell me poultry folks are odd????
Actually I blame most of my problems on Chitaquarott! I was very new to chickens had some Freys Ready to Lays. Went to Spencerville Fair and Joan was kind enough to chat to me and educate me. Start of a long slippery slope LOL!
