Good Morning!

The digging? Pet to bury if I recall? He needs a send off, ceremony of sorts that could bewhy. Dig the hole, have a Bon fire some drinks and at the end of the evening send him on his way.
Not easy :( but it will at the minimum let some peace come your way. *Hugs*

Now if we aren't talking about a pet and it is someone else who mentioned it on their to-do list, then I bet Gary is worried.

Kennel training Ava. I have a big kennel that doubles as a duck pen at night. The duck coop is closed up, but I really really need to get some work done and this girl is constantly up to no good. the minute I turn my head or focus on something else chaos. Like work.

Dusted the birds this morning. Came back to this.
image.jpeg
It WAS a grape tomatoes plant. Sticks holding up and plant shredded and apparently it needed bones buried in it.

Hate mites. Hate the thought of them. Dusted everyone with poultry dust and pretty sure there isn't a single mite left on my body. Not sure why, but I am always covered head to toe in this stuff.

Well time in kennel is a success, better go and give a break while they are quiet. Reward with good behaviour. :)

Have a good day.

So now she is in here with Drake.

And I sit on the deck with the remote for her collar to buzz her if she whines. No whining allowed.

Swedish Duck who got many many wasp stings seems to be on the mend but part of me isn't sure, as I have a tendency to see the best result when I want it. He's on children's benedryl but still struggling. Poor little dude. Bet he won't take on anything that resembles a wasps nest again. I have destroyed 3 nest in the front Chinese maple this last week and one I just noticed on my deck this morning. They seem to be everywhere.

Deer fly season last forever or what? Started early and there are still some kicking around. Was bad this year.

Yup... got Fluffy buried. Finally. Geez. My back is screaming now. But it was always something. Too frozen. Too wet. Too busy. Too dry. Too hot. Still too hot, but I did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whoo hoo. I opened the box, pulled back her blanket and gave her a scratch. Hmmm, didn't really like the frozen bent ear. lol. Poor kitty. She was an old cat. I have video's and pictures of her, and it wasn't too long ago, she was still playful and 'with it'. Probably had diabetes... or kidney problems..... anyhow. Thankful its over. I backfilled the hole and thought of all the bulbs I have from costco in bags inside.... so dug down another 6 inches... wasn't too hard.... and put quite a few daffodils in. Thought I may as well put them there (not my first choice... bought them for the lane....but I don't think deer and squirrels eat daffy bulbs), and that will mark the spot in spring. It will be pretty.

Yes, went to Martin and Kathy's.... enjoyed a good visit.... and went to the yearly pig roast. It is superb!! VERY yummy. Lots to eat. We left right away, I kind of wanted to be home before dark. Well... it was dark when I got home and went to the barn. Oh well. It was a good day/time. Thanks to you guys again.... AND sorry if we interrupted too much work, lol.

Gary is cutting hay. Going to wack about 30 acres down. ALL of the 120 acres need to be cut again. Most 3rd cutting.... some second. The grass next door is finally grown enough, with the sparse alfalfa, so its coming down. We need it to have enough for the cows for winter. If we don't get it dry.... then we will silage it. In marshmallow bales, lol.

I told Jess I would babysit abit later, while she went for a haircut. Then tomorrow the blacksmith comes and a friend and I are going to Paris to a little market stand... and greenhouse. Always wanted to go there. WAS going to drive to Keady Market... then cross country and go see my parents in Paisley, but my back can't stand sitting in the vehicle. KNOW how Kathy feels. To a degree. I know I can't sit in a vehicle and drive 6-7 hours tomorrow. Wednesday, I am picking up something from Sandy's son and/or ex.... or whatever he is.... and maybe do Costco last time before school starts. Thursday morning a neighbour who works at Horizon Hydro is taking me to the bus yard on Nebo rd... to get my bus. Not sure whats happening Friday... hoping to take two hens, ones an egg eater, and the other is a bitch... and a snotty little chick.. who is a male... but so so young, and literally BEATING the crap out of the other male chick in the group of four with a broody.... and maybe some turkeys. I really really need to get rid of some. Got a lovely palm male... and 5 beautiful jennies... who are just starting to lay. They were hatched in February. Maybe take a trio.... and pair the remaining with a red palm boy.. who is in a dog crate, because hes taking to latching on to his hatchmates head, and hanging on, and making him cry. So... two of that trio my old palm girl hatched must be boys. I thought the palm two were girls. I wouldn't thing the one, who is definitely male.. would try and kill a female. I imagine hes been suppressed and hasn't been showing hes a male.

But I could be wrong. But I'm never wrong. Hardly, lol.

Pulled half my onion patch... they are out sunbathing curing. They had all fallen over. The other patch, planted two weeks later is just starting to get ready. I sure don't want them reprouting/growing with all the wetness in the dirt again!

Well, lunch/coffee/rest is done. NO matter the sore back, I need to do stuff. Right now, hang the laundry thats been sitting in the washer for 5 hours. Then maybe plant the rest of the daffy's out the lane. They don't sit as well in bags than the tulips. At least as far down as I dug... the ground was damp. Really!! Amazing what 2 3/4 inches of rain will do!! So happy.

Costco has Xmas stuff out if you're ready to Xmas shop Shirley hahaha. Ridiculous.

Just got back from taking dogs for a walk. Phew-eeeeee it's hot. Enough of their shenanigans while I'm trying to get stuff done. My old boy Drake is struggling more and more with the heat. He usually stays home for the afternoon walks, but today he was pretty adamant on joining us, so he did. Now he's down for the count with Miss Ava.

I'll likely end up at the auction as well on Friday after some medical tests. Still working on getting my potassium levels up to the low end of normal. It's the big long weekend, odd and unusual auction. Always brings out all kinds of critters.

Next weekend is a few shifts at the Niagara poultry show. A lot of people I'm sure, so I need to prepare for that LOL. You coming Shirley? Just give me your keys upon arrival.

Made a few peach crisps yesterday. One of my favourite. Better than apple or berry crisp!! I do like strawberry rhubarb crisp as well, but will take peach over any other kind given the opportunity. It sure was good!! Gave one to the neighbour , one has been eaten and one for the freezer.

Morning,

Great day out there. For now. Will get hot again, but at least it is cooling down and nights and in the mornings. Makes the hot days a wee bit more tolerable.

I have a waterfowl project coming up in the spring that I am so excited about and if I could get a second coop built I'd start it prior to November. I hate my visual restrictions. I just can't seem to piece it together in my head to get it started so it can get done, never mind the middle of the project. I have the building materials and the financial means to get it built, just dependent on JT and/or Lou to help me. JT is working 6 days a week, 12-15 hr days, masonry work, so it's hard to lean into his one day a week he hangs with friends or has down time ATV'ing etc. Lou works 7 days a week so that's out the window. I wonder if I just start, if I'll figure it out. Hmmmm.

Well, it's Tuesday, and heavy work day and evening at the desk is in order. But gotta go and do some coop chores first. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!! Gotta get at it.

RIP Fluffy! next time maybe you could borrow Ava and get the hole dug for you! bad ava......did she at least eat the tomatoes and put them to good use sandy?
Fluffy was awesome. blind, couldn't hear, a bit "stunned" when i met her, but she was absolutely ANCIENT then. and doing really well for her age!
Now she'll protect your garden. :-)

had to feed some pumpkins to the free ranging boys this weekend. too hot, they're not even seasoning, just starting to rot with the heat. they enjoyed them. they even ate the orange skins!
got our first watermelons from the garden! YUM! more coming up. it's just WRONG when the pumpkins are finished before the watermelons. weird weird weird.
and once again, my lettuce did not sprout. again. i think i'm done with direct seeding lettuce. 5 years ago, no problem, it would grow everywhere. the seed the last 2 years, NOTHING. i have to start it in pots. PITA. so no more lettuce this year. i'm done with that crap. it's all pelletted seed and i think the clay doesn't dissolve the way it should or something. oh well.
my yellow beans grew new beans. gah! now i'm going to have to pick them....(in moderation).

one of the fans in the barn quit yesterday...have another on order, should be in day after tomorrow. looks like the motor burnt out. sigh. oh well. vent fan is working great, it's not bad up in the loft, but i do like giving the birds a breeze to sit in. cleaned all the pens this past weekend, had yesterday off from work so i finished the 4 up yesterday, including 2 grow out pens...they usually freak out but they were all really good, just sat and watched and moved out of the way when i needed them to move. smart birds (at least this batch seems to be).

have 30 fuzzybutts in the brooder now. AL, i thought of you this morning! i had 3 easter egger olive eggs in there, they were cracked, i just scotch taped over the crack....each one hatched! LOL. perfect little yellow fuzzybutt from each one. LOL. these are a custom hatch for a lady setting up her layer flock. she wants colour-everything but white....so olive, green, blue, brown, speckled and spotted. LOL. soon i'll be locking down BVF's chicken eggs-and then next week for the guineas and turkeys.....will hopefully get some photos tonight (there will still some hatching this morning) when she's over taking some photos. YES! another successful recruit to crazy chicken lady-dom! LOL

pulled a lot of the creeping charlie crap weeds from the driveway...about half done...that stuff drives me insane. it's a wonderful mat of green that stays green in the dry but really, in my driveway??! sheesh.

can't believe it's almost september now. starting to get really busy again around the university and in town now. students moving back. next week will be mayhem on campus LOL. and every major road to and from campus is under construction. great plan. LOL.

hope everyone has a wonderful day. stay cool (this morning was gorgeous!).

Good afternoon, lots of running around today..... 11 year old daughter is in a Peter Pan music theatre workshop this week, started yesterday ends with performances on Friday and Saturday evenings, she just found out she got the part of Wendy (my wife's name is Wendy so she is really excited).

After dropping her off took my 14 year old daughter to the Health Unit to get HPV vaccination she missed at school, when there they said she is due for tetanus shot as well, so she got both, she was not happy, gets very anxious about getting needles, she nearly fainted.

After that went to doctor's office for my 3 month diabetes check up, when there he suggested I get a pneumonia vaccination, plus I was overdue for tetanus shot, so I got stuck twice too.

Doctor reviewed my blood work I had done last week.... back in November when 1st diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes my A1C (blood glucose) was around 14, diet change and medications have helped bring it down, in April in was in the 7 range, today it was 5.9. He was thoroughly impressed and suggested I could stop taking my medication and see how things go. Very excited about that!!!

Well time to go do something useful, until later.
