I find if you lift a bird up and it struggles, just put it's feet on your hand and it settles right away!

I used to have that problem with ducklings and one day is just put his feet on my arm to carry him and I was like, oooo, flatten the feet and they settle. Been using that 'trick' ever since. Palm or arm and they treat you like a perch.
