Funny you say that Doug. Mothers side of the family is Church of Scotland. When I went to visit as a child I was shocked when I got heck for playing with the girl up the road, my own age. She was Catholic! I couldn't understand it.

Well. Went to the auction today. If I wasn't annoyed enough with life I had to go and see some animals that clearly should be put out of their misery. I also saw some very well taken care of animals which is always a breath of fresh air.

So ducklings. Some ducklings, Muscovys that were for sale. I'm going to say approx 2 weeks old. So dirty, so smelly. Before you approached the box they were in you could smell them. Yes, I know ducks get dirty, but there is a Differnce between I was playing in mud today and all week verses I've been living in my own poop since I hatched. One visibly had legs spread out. I figured some niacin would fix her up. I sat in my truck a few minutes before the auction started to decide if I wanted another project (legs). (You can view animals prior to the auction beginning)

Well, 6 ducklings came home with me. I just can't stand the thought that maybe if someone else took home the spread leg one they would cull or it would die slowly. So in I went and told the auctioneer I will take them and to not mess with numbers with me, I wasn't in the mood. And the auction began. You know what doesn't work on these ducklings. Their legs. None of them. They swim great because they all got a bath when they came home. Baby shampoo and all. You do not understand how much it bothers me to see babies caked in poop and smelling worse than a dozen cows asses!! They got a bath. They got cleaned. It took 3 times emptying and filling the tub to get them clean water to swim in. They swam pretty well. Except when you drain the water they all flop down.

How :sSig_censored: hard is it to give them niacin, to give them proper food? I seriously get so frustrated with people!! The same auction number had about 6 boxes of muscovys for sale. I highly doubt I ended up with the magic 2 that all have non-working legs and lethargic.

I have stress aid in their water and niacin (triple dose) in their feed. I forced niacin/stress aid treated water down their throats with a syringe. I need this in them, for them. And you know what? A few hours later and they are already showing small improvements.

I have choice words for people who are lazy useless :sSig_censored: and can't take adequate care of their animals. They don't have to have the red carpet rolled out, but their minimum requirements so they can function should be met if you are going to have/keep animals.

If this offends anyone I don't care. The lack of care for theses ducklings offends me deeply.

Now, I must go and cut some kale from the garden, juice it and feed it to the ducklings via syringe. And you can bet I will be swearing the whole time.

i found auctions and such just made me angry so i stopped going, because i would try to help every single critter there by buying them and then feeling the exact way you are sandy.....my heart and my head couldn't take it. i don't get how some people just don't care, or don't know, or can't see, or can't be bothered, or can't figure it out, or can't ask or at least TRY....
sigh.

good on you! those things will be following you into the house i'm sure, bonded for life :-)

Ya it's hard Kathy, but I have been that way For as long as I can remember. Always bringing home the strays, always befriending the 'ugly duckling' etc..

Sad situation: There is a house around the corner. Burnt to the ground. Dog is tied with a massive chain to its dog house. Has most obviously been his whole life. Now he's on his own. No one living there. Smells so bad. Hasn't been groomed, likely ever. Malamute. Senior. Can't hear me coming, so I clap my hands and one day at dusk he couldn't see me so he was aggressive so I went back in the morning. I left a note in their mailbox offering him a temp home, no questions or assumptions, until their new home was built or a forever home for him. Didn't hear from them. I left a more stern note saying the next time I showed up and he didn't have food or water I was calling the police. Each time I go to see him he has water and food now. II'll be watching. There isn't any need for that crap and I have zero tolerance for a dog without necessities of life. It's bad enough he is alone and tied to a frigging dog house his entire life, but water and food are a must...my friend is a groomer (previous vet tech) and she thinks the collar has grown into his neck. I can't see any evidence other than I can't see a collar, but he is a malamute and one thick hairy beast, his ears bleed from the deer flies and I have pictures, but hopefully that will all come to an end soon.

Ducklings: They are having the best day. Exploring, swimming and eating fresh kale from the garden in the pool. They're shy from me, but I have peas defrosting so I know I will win them over in an hour or so. I'll get some pictures when they aren't so shy or I can sneak one in.

They had a great day and we are set for another one with many many more to come. My older Muscovys got them cooped last night as well. I just love it when a plan (ha! What plan) comes together.
