Evacuation!!

Post by Jaye » Tue Aug 16, 2016 4:01 pm

We had a "pet" house spider in Australia too. I think the species was a Huntsman spider, and it did a great job keeping the indoor bugs and "lesser" spiders in check. It stayed up near the ceiling most of the time, minding its own business and managing the indoor bug population.
It was considered good luck to have a Huntsman spider take up residence. In addition to feeding on the usual garden variety bugs, they kept redbacks and other poisonous spiders away.

Eeeek!!! It's dinner time. It's eating the bug whole!

I think my heart skipped a few beats worried it was going to jump on me. It's over my head trying to take this picture.

Think it's the same kind?

Sandy, I think you may have slightly exaggerated the size of your little orange friend ;)

pretty neat eh? lol these are the most common spiders around here. there the one that cover buildings especially around lights. eating lots of insects though.

I just go to this website and look through the pics until I find something similar. http://www.spiders.us/species/filter/ontario/

theres one called the Orchard Orbweaver, green yellow n silver, we have them out at camp, those are really neat looking spiders.

but heres my all time favorite spider. I never did get one but that could change. LOL but, I did have one in at the petstore I worked at and someone stole it! I was livid! Tarantulas are incredibly easy to care for. this one here is the Cobalt Blue Tarantula, theres not many large spiders out there that stay really pretty as adults. arnt you glad we dont live in a place with tarantulas? well im not HAHAHA.

That is stunning.
I was always terrified of spiders (had them thrown at me to "cure" me etc. A guy at work brought in his pet something or other and let me handle it on my terms. It was furry, soft and very nice. Not been scared of them since.

Probably Tarantula, pretty soft and fuzzy apparently they make great pets, never saw a blue one before!
