Evacuation!!

Post by Home Grown Poultry » Tue Aug 09, 2016 6:01 pm

we have those snake dens here. Garter snakes. I know where there are 3 of them. every spring yup thousands of snakes come out of brumation, the reptile and amphibian form of hibernation, breed and then go on there way. I found those dens before I ever read about them or seen them on tv. really cool! I just wish they were cooler snakes than garters. unfortunately all the other breeds somewhat resemble rattlesnakes both with there patterns and there behavior and are now all in some status of endangered.

Baron if those exotic praying mantisis lived a little longer than a few months I would have had some. there are some really pretty mantisis from other countries. I just couldnt justify the cost.

Evacuation!!

Post by madison174 » Tue Aug 09, 2016 9:10 pm

My rule of thumb is that if it's afraid of us, I'm terrified of it. Little spiders who don't care about me...no problem. Big spiders that hide when they see me....oh hell no! Anything that can move faster than I can watch it go...NO THANK YOU!

AAAAALLLL! Are you scaring the girls with your critters again? Detention for you young man!
On the blackboard you will write "I will not chase girls with worms or other animals." And don't stop until you've done it 100 times!

I seriously woke @ 4:30 feeling like my bed was full of spiders. Ripped everything off the bed but ended up down on the couch. Moral of the story, don't read this thread before sleep.

I get snakes are important etc., I just wish they didn't slither. Or slither in front of me. I wish I wasn't scared of them, would make my life easier living here lol.

I probably shouldn't say about the shiny black spider I found in our bed in Victoria. Caught it up in a glass and sure enough there was the orange hour glass! Let it go though, area had quite a few of them.

Evacuation!!

I had black widows in my apartment in california when i lived there. not a big deal-as long as you didn't get bitten! LOL. the worst though were the fireants. OMG. those got in one time, and were just AWFUL. i had a lab mate there that actually trained a cockroach (they're big there, like 3 inches long) to beg for food.....it would ride on his shoulder or in his lab coat pocket. THAT grossed me out. it ate coffee grounds. and slept in the coffee maker basket, or his lab drawer. i didn't last long in california-and i still don't drink coffee.

we were cleaning up the old shed tear down and there were garter snakes in the one pile of leftover 3 year old hay.....we were forking the hay into the tractor bucket. it was NOT impressed. i think it's back in the pile, we left it alone because the chickens were out and they kill them. i don't need the mice and rats, so i like the snakes. had them slither out from where i was weeding in the garden....a bit of a surprise, but they're harmless. so i'll have to see if it's still in the hay and if so, relocate it to the garden where it will be much much safer.

Al, we have corn snakes down here too! (milk snakes) i find them quite often along the edge of the field in early october hunting season. they're very very pretty. and we once found a shed skin from what i presume was a big old garter snake that was seriously a meter or so long!

Sandy, i told my family of garden spiders last night that you had a friend of theirs. i swear they said to say hi. I think the heat is bothering my brain. LOL.

OMG! That's hilarious about cockroach and coffee and you don't drink it. I got a good chuckle. Sorry but that's funny!

Ha! I'm not relaying the message. Nope. I haven't even checked if it is still in the same spot. Part of me wishes it is gone, but then where did it go? The other part hopes its still there so I know where it is.

KB I can't not get into a bed without checking for spiders. And bedbugs if I'm traveling. I check the corner of my room and my ceiling for spiders. It's part of my going to bed ritual. How's that for sharing my whackiness?? When we first moved here apparently this lady was witchy or vegan because the house was overrun with spiders and mice. I mean so many spiders each day we came to check on construction they would complain about clearing the web-way to get to the kitchen lol. We ended up having the house treated, it had millipedes and centipedes and spiders, big black ones everywhere. We didn't plan on moving in right away anyways, so it worked. I still find the odd huge fighting spider. It will raise its front legs at me as I put a glass over it. Then it sits there until Lou or Josh deal with it.
