Good Morning!

Post by Maximus » Wed Aug 03, 2016 7:32 am

Morning everyone

How's the kitty BVF? Hope she starts to feel better soon.

It's beautiful outside. Cool with a breeze. Wish it would stay like this all day.

The morning shenanigans with these two dogs is in full bloom while I type this. Little puppy barks and growls while wrestling haha!! She does wonderfully at night. She goes to bed around 9:30-10 (and so do I lately) and she's good till 6am. Sleeps in her crate all snuggled up and I don't hear a peep from her until I let her sleepy head out in the morning.

I lost so many planters with being down and out. I didn't think for them to be watered and neither did the guys. Oh well, what can you do. I couldn't figure out who was taking all my cherry tomatoes from the planters on the deck. The other day I spotted the culprit. CHIPMUNKS !! They even take my green ones.

Off to doctors today. I almost don't want to go because I have so much to get done at home but gotta do what ya gotta do.

So while I was down and out, J was primarily in charge of flock morning and nights. He 'assumed' the 3 week old Legbars free ranged. Well they do now and have since. Out each morning and put themselves to bed each night. They were on grass from a few days old so it's not a big change for them. Well other than the freedom of course. It's a amazing to me hiw the different ages just stick to themselves and go about their business each day as groups.

My daughters birthday is today. She's 26. That makes me old.

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Cheers

good morning all!
good luck at the dr sandy! hopefully you get a good clean bill of health! and happy birthday to your daughter.
Maybe your planters will come back with some diligent pampering? if not, there's lots of sales on annuals at garden centers....just pop a few in and viola instant planter! ya gotta tell coon to get out there and get those chipmunks!! or hone your skills with a 22. LOL

Had our first sweet corn from the garden EVER! we've lived at the farm for about 10 years now, and have NEVER been able to grow corn....the dirt sand just wouldn't support it. We have been dumping every little bit of horse manure and now all the chicken bedding (composted of course!) and every year all the mulch is also soaked up by the garden in short order, for 10 years...and FINALLY i have sweet corn! and it's wonderful! LOL. i mulched with an old big round of hay this year, at least 8 inches deep, and it's GONE.....it's already composted into the ground, unbelievable. so more will go on soon....i still have some of the round left, just sitting out soaking up whatever water falls on it (it's under the edge of what gets water from the sprinkler...lol). That bale sat out 2 years in the weather, and amazingly didn't donate grass to the garden yay! i have another 2 waste bales out for the next 2 years-it worked way better than i expected.

got home last night to hoards of TINY little red ants all over my kitchen counter! NOT a happy camper....waged some war and haven't seen any yet again. also put down some of that stuff they take back to the nest....so hopefully that will end it. but micro-small little ants....sigh. always something with this house!!! guess it's what keeps life interesting!

hope everyone has a great day! stay cool!

Not the best day today. Since the dog attack Lucky had been acting oddly but OK. Last couple of weeks he became unpredictable and Monday spurred he heck out of me. The girls weren't staying with him either for ranging. He was alarm calling constantly. We decided he needed to go but Joan said check his eyesight. Sure enough he can't see properly which would explain him lashing out. Close up he's fine, taking treats. When you spoke to him he recognised us. He has almost no pupillary reaction in his right eye so he can't see properly. He'd also lost a lot of condition in the last couple of months. We'd hoped he'd spend a long retirement here after his bravery but I sent him home today. Not fair to pen up a bird that's free ranged like him. Actually I had to get my neighbour Jack to do it for me because I'm such a wuss where Lucky is concerned.

For those of you who aren't familiar with "Lucky's story" he is the Splash cockerel in my Avatar.
My first Blue Wyandottes came in a form of eggs, so after the first year of breeding, I needed to skip a generation to get away fro sib. breeding, and the Splash Rooster (until then nameless) had to go.
He was well on his way to camp Kenmore when KB took him on in 2014, that's when he was named Lucky. ;)
KB gave him two extra years of pretty exciting roostering, so all in all a pretty remarkable life, knowing when to let go is an art in itself, so Thank you Gill

 So sorry KB. That had to be really difficult, knowing how fond you were of him.
He really was lucky to have lived the last 2 years of his life with you.
