Great job on the tearing down!! I remember the days when we were trying to pull an old barn down for someone. It was a big barn, like ours... we hooked the cable on the big tractor, and tried to pull one of the main corner poles down. We jerked and jerked and jerked, lol. They are built to last those old ones!

Well, I started watering the squash patch, and ended up going to Glen Morris with Gary to take a combine part in to be welded. The combine broke, and he spent alot of time taking the thing apart to get that out. Seems a bolt came out of something, and something about a belt and hydraulics...... had to empty a cylinder? I may be out in left field on what was said. Seems we will be down for a few days. It takes Gary so long to figure stuff out, and put stuff back together.

I unloaded 2 wagons of straw myself, and mowed them. Paying for it now tho. Sit for too long, and I am practically crippled. But, being down now, he can load those wagons back up. There are two more BIG ones to be unloaded. One I pulled into the barn. I would rather do them by myself on a 'cool' day, than tomorrow and beyond. Seems things are really going to heat up again. And, be dry.

Came home and got feed at the same time! yay. Thats out of the way. 4 cattle to VG meats tomorrow, and tomorrow we also go get our new herd sire!! I hope I like the looks of him. I haven't seen him. Gary did. He will put us back $4000. He better be worth it!

Well... Marv just took the load of grain and hes back for supper. Wants to do stuff at his grannies tonight.

LOL BVF....so we hooked up to the top southwest corner of the old tobacco barn and pulled with the tractor and the whole barn leaned and leaned and then CRACK! and the south wall came down and the rest of it stood back up LOL. and this was with virtually no wall already on the east and west sides!
so then we tried cabling to the back corner (northeast) and pulling to the southwest and separated the clips on the cable. twice. grrrr. even tightening the clips as tight as we could they kept separating. so then we cut through a bunch more beams and stuff....i think we had pretty much the entire thing cut off around the base....tried pulling again, and then decided to ram it from the northeast corner. that enticed it enough to lie down. then a bit of "fluffing" with the tractor (lifting the peak and dropping it) broke that up enough to be at ground level. The driveshed, we cut everything, spent the morning ripping the wood siding planks off, and then got the windows and glass out, and pulled it and it came down in one pull and pretty much shattered when it hit the ground. the barn is so desperately dry...the wood just splinters.....we still have to rescue our cable and our 3 tie downs that have been holding the tops of the walls together for 5 years now, didn't risk taking those out before pulling since they were the only thing stopping the roof from crashing down between the walls.

found a nice wasps nest...only got stung once thank goodness. emptied our wasp spray right into the nest. a little bit of vindication there....glad i'm not allergic to bee strings, got me right on the face too. sigh.

now, what was very funny was the horses came out of the barn, around the end of the barn and stopped dead....just staring and staring and snorting and staring and then took off running LOL. guess the pile of rubble is too much for them. LOL. i should have put them to work pushing and pulling.

i think tonight we are going to scout glencoe for ice cream. LOL. small celebration. :-) and then maybe have a bonfire with some of the barnboard...
that sucks about the combine BVF. and sandy, stop with the cute puppy photos! i already have 2 too many, and we're dog sitting another......and i have zero will power....LOL

If you can't get rid of it, cut out the drum and use as rim around firepit. Holes look great with the flames in them....
Good luck finding a taker!

What a great idea! As long as it's a steel drum. My previous washer had a plastic drum, so probably not the best as a firepit surround.;-)

Good morning!! Cool out right now. All the windows were open for the night. Going out now, so closing them up, before the heat wave. Cool in here now.

Watered the squash last night. Just kept moving the hose nozzle from plant to plant. Did the pumpkins and the tomatoes under plastic too. I only have to water them once every 2 weeks or so. GOT to do the trees at the road. The ONE I planted in the spring is going brown. Hope its not too late to save it. Been kind of at the giving up stage of watering things. Holy GEEZ.... its a trial watering things with a bucket and a margarine container, moving hoses... moving soaker hoses.... I am so so tired. I'm in good shape now tho... all that bending/crouching/squatting. And, this morning? NOT at all sore from doing all that straw and watering yesterday! yay.

I also suggest that people find a steel washer drum or dryer... or whatever... for fire pit. The one at Kathy and Martins is truly mesmerizing and just FASCINATING to watch! They have bricks built like a wall half way up it (forgot to bring some home the last time I was there....), but I DID get a drum, and have used it. Nicer with the bricks around it. I just stuck the bottom thing into the ground. It kind of cocked off after awhile, lol.

Not sure whats going on here today. Combine is busted... took the part away to be welded.... and straw to bale. There is now 3 empty wagons... Dave/Gary and I did the one steel wagon last night. So nice and cool out right now. Should be unloading that one now. But... we have started a tradition around here.... Jess' family comes and helps us put the straw up. We fill that mow in one afternoon. Seriously a wagon of 150 bales average (big one holds about 180... smaller ones about 125....) in less than 10 minutes!! In just over 2 hours last year, we had about 1500 bales in! Thats with 5 people in the mow... and 4 on the wagon, lol. It was abit frustrating tho... theres only just so much space up there, and I found tripping over people was a pain, everyone seemed to grab the bale from another..... It was a good thing last year, we had to travel abit to take wagons back, because we were unloading them faster than Gary could fill them. We have 4 wagons.

Its fun tho... and afterwards, there plenty of beer and either pizza or KFC. Most people like the pizza better. Goes better with beer, lol. But.. going to be a blister of a hot weekend. It will be seriously humid/hot up there.

Well, I'd better get out and fill water buckets. Sigh.

Sounds like never a dull day over there BVF.

Back to feed store today. Opened 2 bags of bedding for the ducks coop and both are moldy and obviously have gotten wet. I get sooooo annoyed with that kind of stuff. Go there, get it, get it home, haul it to the coop, open it and curse. Take back to truck and open second bag, same problem. Curse some more. Now to find the time again and go back to town, not bitch all over them will be the chore, because poop happens, but when poop happens it still has the ability to annoy me.

I am still on the fence what to do with my Rock Roo. Not fertilizing eggs. But he is so good to them all. Oh, well. I'll figure it out. Eventually.

Looks like I have 1 female and 5 males for my ducklings. If I go by feathering on wings and tail feathers and stumps for legs, I've got 1:5 ratio. BOOOOO!!!

It's nice and cool right now, but that's not lasting. Hope everyone has a great day.
