thanks! i had one hen go to town on our boxelder tree....she ripped off a whole pile of leaves and i have no doubt she would have ended the same way as yours except they were so packed she couldn't close her beak and swallow them in, so i managed to pry them out of her before she got them in. just awful, i'm sorry. sometimes they do really strange/stupid things....sigh.

Wyandottes don't seem to suffer from this problem, at least I haven't come across it in the past, but I have been watching them stripping the vine leafs with extra enthusiasm, wondering if it was the sounds they like, because it was some kind of a party, fairly unusual for laid back Wyandottes.
I will keep an eye on it in the future, thanks to your willingness to check the crop.
