Nice breeze this morning. It helps to cut through the heat that's building.

4 of my broody hens started hatching their clutches yesterday. Much better hatch rate than earlier in year. 15? chicks so far. It's hard to count when they dash back under mom.

My Isbar hen has gone broody. She's 3 and has never shown any interest before now. I'm happy for her. This breed will benefit from being raised by hen. Less maintenance and healthier chicks. I'll have her chicks that will want to do the same next year.

Muscovy ducklings are doing great. So much fun to watch them. Never get tired of it. Love the one silver that hatched. Will be keeping the silver, 2 blue and 2 black.

Well, we're on tour through London area and a quick thanks to Martin and Kathy (WLLady) and Kenya (i forgot her name already) for the birds and eggs picked up.

I'll report back results of hatched eggs when I have them.

Oh, and a nice setup WLLady and hubby have, out with the junky (dangerous) sheds, and build something new. Now I have to put the chainsaw down and pick up a circular saw and hammer and get building. What's the saying: it takes 5 units of work to build something, 2 units to maintain it, and 7 units to rebuild it.

So Kathy and Martin have 10 (or more?) pens built into their new barn. I guess I should quit talking and get working on this old monster. Cedar logs 16 or 18 inches at ends and maybe 100' by 70'. Built in 1913, forget about on the farm, I don't think there's 10 trees in the Township long and straight enough to be added to this building.

Well, here we are. Another weekend, long one to boot, has disappeared like the money in my bank account. Where? How is it Monday already? Oh well. Here we go again.

Lots of work to get done today and tomorrow. You know how it is. Walked out back this morning to let everyone out and the cats have moles on the deck 'torturing' them. I sigh and walk past. Coon, (Racoon is her name) follows me mole in mouth to coop #1. Ducklings chase her trying to get it out of her mouth. Unsuccessful. Then I let the flock out. Girl basically beats up the cat for the mole and swallows it whole. Disgusting. This particular girl has done this a few times that I've seen and last time she was under the weather for a day or two. I suspect the same is about to happen again.

Silkie mom has adopted her 2 keets like the champ that she is. Yesterday they were running on her and playing on her back. She just turned her head side to side and clucked at them. She's so awesome!!!

Racoon came by last week. Crossbow works. A bit of an overkill situation, excuse the pun, but a better option than the pitchfork previously assisting.
PAL arrived in mail on Thursday. Visiting Hamilton Gun Club on Wednesday to see what it's all about. Gun shopping Wednesday.

Lavender festival this up coming weekend, Niagara-on-the-lake. I LOVE all things lavender.

Bees are doing great. I think. I have to get in and add the next level, check frames and make sure it's all going down like nature intended. Eeek! They are in the chicken waterers regularity despite having their own waterer over by the hives. I love seeing them flying around from flower to flower. They love the hollyhocks ... I think that's what it's called.

Morning everyone! Great to see both kenya and baron yesterday! that's an awesome barn baron! they just don't build em like that anymore!!!!
thank you also for talking me out of growing hay LOL.
Kenya, st. mary's didn't change all that much....happy to see LOL. all under construction! we took the back roads home-through rannoch. LOL. haven't been that way for years. nice to see the old town again.
hope those boys do well for you and heidi!

well, moved quite a few birds this weekend. bittersweet. my entire outside layer flock went to a family just starting up a farm with 3 young kids down near another friend of mine near merlin. i'm sure they'll get along great there. and baron got some cornish, and kenya got the RIR boys....and i lost one of my old welbars...just found her with a broken neck - probably from one of the roosters being way too rough...had some issues with him before. so he's going to freezer camp soon. or he'll be throw out the door into the great outdoors to fend for himself without any girls.

good weekend though. got the garden weeded, and the tomatoes are ALMOST ready! and the summer squash will be ready in a few days, and some hot peppers are already ready to go. my garlic needs to be harvested, tonight or tomorrow.....beans are flowering, potatoes just finished flowering so there's probably some new potatoes hanging out under there. and the indian corn is growing like crazy! yay! i also planted some sweet corn this year and for the first time ever it's actually growing well. sunflowers are already about 4 feet tall-i plant the mammoth russians....love them! and my grapevines are vining. raspberries are ready already! yummy. and lettuce is going strong, time to start harvesting the herbs as well. love this time of year.

got the driveshed (the dangerous buildings) cleaned out the rest of the way...we actually found trim from an old pickup truck in the rafters! lots of junk from the last owners! so it's all cleaned out, have to order the bin and then it's DESTRUCTION time LOL. yes, way more work to rebuild....but will be fund to tear down i'm sure.

Well good morning and a bit of catch up time after a busy week pre-wedding and wedding on Saturday of my only child (son's) special day. So much work but so worth every moment. It was a perfect day for weather, good food, fun and the love of so many family and friends, hubby and I are truly blessed and proud. Let me introduce you to the happy Mr. & Mrs. Brad and Mandy XO
