Good luck with the hatch Doug!!. I will never forget being at the Simcoe Pouktry show and the call ducks. Must of been the upwards of 50+ little calls. Cute but man the racket they make hah! One goes and that's it, the whole orchestra gets going. Some real pretty ones too, but way to noisy for me.
When I was at the auction a few weeks ago, 2 day old call ducks were there. How did I know? Before I saw them I could hear them haha!! Now those are tiny ducklings. And sooo adorable. But loud.

No can't have a bad day when you come home to those little cuties. I miss having ducks, I love the sound the ducklings make, but no more.........I will just enjoy your photos of yours

Wish I could post a video easily. I videoed them walking to their coop for bed following a trail of peas. Omg the waddling! If you could OD on cuteness I would of been hospitalized.

They get big so fast. They follow me absolutely everywhere and I have to be careful to not step on them. When I got home today, they already know my truck and come running from wherever they are. It's a long haul when you're that little. So I carry them all back to the yard area, my hands and pockets full.
They go to their pen door each evening and when I open it they hop into their coop for the night. Trained already. Amazing what some peas can do.
Omg they love romaine lettuce!!

Thinking about having a bad day ?
Oh Sandy, so cute! Once they outgrow the little kiddie pool, what then? A bigger kiddie pool, then an above-ground with duck steps, then an in-ground with a LOT of filtration? LOL!
I love watching mine chase flies and mosquitoes. I wasn't going to let my muscovies breed this year because I have too many already in line for the freezer (and with only 20 or so muscovies total, and only a handful or two solid-coloured which is what I want, I still have too few to make some hard decisions lol), BUT the buggers have found ways around my micro-management, and another mum (the third of the year) has just emerged from the bushes with babies in tow.
My experience has been that they stay fairly hand-tame for life, unlike other regular ducks.
My only advice would be that when they are grown, be careful how you pick them up--they like to have their feet ON something and if their feet dangle, they tend to struggle and those talons can pierce skin quite easily.
SQUEEEE, babies!!!

Thanks Jan.
They need those little steps in and out haha. They also need peas in their pool so they can go dunking for them. One actually rolls, like a hotdog on the BBQ when it is in the pool. Cutest ever!! I have a river for them I will show them the way once they are older. Although, it is crispy and dry this year, first time ever. I am seriously considering digging them a pond in the fall.
I think what I love the most is when I open the coop door in the morning and they are all groggy and slow moving, waddling towards the light of day, then I walk over to their pool and splash the water. Full steam ahead!! Water!!!!!!!
Thank you for the tip. Their legs are very strong already. I have noticed previously that if you didn't hold them with feet secured they would squirm, but if you hold them like flat on your hand, or in a pocket (haha) they stay and are much more comfortable so I know there is a reason and make a point of always securing their feet.
They hunt alllll day. I mean hunt flies and mosquitos like its their job! They can be in the pool then all of a sudden a mosquito or fly catches their eye and you can watch all of their necks extend and eyes follow the mosquito. Haha.
I have one that is very attached to me. She follows me everywhere when the others have been distracted by flying bugs, even to the compost pile which is quite the hike for her. I usually carry her back so she can keep up. She follows in the coops, out of the coops, to the feeders and water filling.
I know I shouldn't but I give them kisses each day. I'll probably die a horrible 'not known cause' for kissing them all. I just want to squish them all!!
