Good Morning! <=2017
Good Morning!
Well I am glad I did not keep the cornish X chicks with this heat, every time I have gone to my brooder boxes this weekend to freshen up their water a bunch of my week old guinea keets and cream legbar chicks are lying on the ground looking dead, when I open the top and put in cool fresh water or veggie treats for them to pick at they pop right up and run right over and eat and drink. They seem fine, I have no heat on in the brooder box during the day, and the temperatures are fine, I guess they are just being lazy in this heat.

Good Morning!
Jim, I'm lazy in this heat. Pls come and freshen my water and supply fresh veggies. That will help ease the pain of this weather for a winter loving 'chick'

Good Morning!
Poor veggies really need a lot of rain, also my new fruit bushes and nut trees. Toms almost keeling over.

Good Morning!
I am big on mulch around trees. Cuts their need for water, moderates ground temps, cuts competition with grass. Don't use sawdust: it'll absorb water and the trees will die of thirst: wood chips or other mulch, i used to bag my lawn and dump it around the trees. Grass disappears fast, i think worms consume it.Killerbunny wrote:QR_BBPOST Poor veggies really need a lot of rain, also my new fruit bushes and nut trees. Toms almost keeling over.
On the summer heat: i deal with it pretty good: soak my t-shirt and wear a long sleeve shirt. I've been doing firewood the last week, comfortable in the woods, i think the adrenaline of running that power tool makes a difference. I love to work in the winter but I overheat, then would be sick for a week.

Good Morning!
what a great way to water the grass ross! LOL. looks like a ton of fun!
all our trees get "mulched" about a foot deep with well rotted horse manure with bedding, they LOVE it! a good boost of fertilizer and smothers the grass and holds water like crazy. our trees must have grown a foot already this spring!
hot and humid already this morning. opened the barn nice and wide for ventilation, all the fans are going...waters are topped up to the very top....hoping everyone does okay today with the heat. hopefully it breaks tonight and tomorrow is cooler.
4 guineas hatched for clawton....in the brooder pen downstairs. forgot how quiet the youngsters are, in stark contrast to the adults LOL will get them delivered sometime in the next couple of days. also have chicks to head up to wyoming soon too! just need to sex them, and i think they're just old enough now that i can....i think.
well, onwards! lots to do! hope everyone has a great day!

Good Morning!
It's hot. It's humid. And I am going to suggest to people to not wear tight light grey yoga pants. I don't care if you look hot or not in them, but no one can carry swamp butt with swag. Not the summer image I was hoping to see today at the feed store. Had to get that off my chest.
Speaking of feed store, you know you're hooked on a product when you drive 3 hrs there and back for bedding. Flax bedding that is. I stocked up with 10 bags. (1 remainder) Main coop and nesting boxes clean out is on the plan for this weekend. There goes 4 -5 bags. Ha! Ducklings are on wood and chopped straw bedding for now in the smaller coop. I'm not convinced they are staying in there forever, but for now that's their home at night. I still think my calf hutch is brilliant for ducks. They're filthy and back up to a wall and
. Hose down the hutch...how much easier can it get?
Anyone going to the Niagara PoultryFest? It's at the new fairgrounds on mud. Niagara fanciers are hosting (?) the poultry competition etc.
I won't be able to make it unfortunately, already have plans providing the weather holds out.
Anyone going to the big auction in Hagersville on July 1st?
Ok, gotta get back to the never ending list of things that need to be done. Hope everyone is staying cool and remember to check on the seniors and the vulnerable in your life and around your neighbor hood.
