Good Morning!

Post by Killerbunny » Tue Jun 14, 2016 8:08 am

All sorts of a ruckus out the front at dawn today. Ravens and crows divebombing a hawk on the front grass. Couldn't believe it a female Goshawk! Gorgeous bird but I'd rather it went elsewhere LOL.

Fingers crossed for a good hatch!!!!! funny how i can stress over someone else's hatch before it happens LOL.

got almost the rest of the garden planted yesterday-a few straggly lettuces and something that is either broccoli or cauliflower or brussel sprouts to go in yet, only about 6 of them....they just weren't rooted enough for my liking before transplanting. a few onions that wouldn't fit in the bed, but then the cutworms took down a few, so i'll replace them. the rest is planted. just need the beans to get a little taller, and then i can finish mulching between those rows. everything is growing up well so far. i have little green tomatoes on the tomato plants! yay! and so far the bunnies and mice haven't found the strawberries which is nice. had a big bowl of home grown strawberries for dessert after dinner last night. so yummy!

lost a wheaten marans chick last night. just quit eating a day ago, and then laid down.....wouldn't get up so i did the "right" thing. sigh. tiny compared to all the others....so obviously not thriving at all. they're eating me out of house and home! 2 full chick feeders with the mason jars twice a day! and growing like mad too. soon they'll get moved to the grow out coop.

had a small bonfire last night, nice and cool and not too windy which was nice. love this time of year! cool nights warm days. nice for sleeping. just locked down on a hatch for a friend, of 12 eggs, 7 made it to lockdown. ducks and guineas apparently....other 5 weren't fertilized it looks like. so....not bad given a 7 hour power outage requiring a generator to be run! phew. so glad we have a generator!
alright. onwards with the day.....
hope everyone has a great one!

Good Morning Y'all

I am LOVING this weather. We were a whopping 14 degrees yesterday. It's amazing how you don't feel so sluggishness when humidity isn't your only thought for the day lol.

I found a flax bedding provider. Definitely not the most convenient location as it will take me over an hour to get there, so I'll buy in large quantities. Heading that way sometime this week because I really am not happy with the chopped straw. But it's worth it to have what I prefer.

When do Easter Eggers start to lay? Assuming the 6 month window like my rocks I got from freys?

I still can't believe, although I'm definitely not complaining, that the coyotes haven't come for a visit since the crossbow sound is a regular occurrence. What's even more frustrating is this damn hitting to the left. Grrrrr!

My silkie is still sitting on 8 eggs. Chicks due towards end of June. Hopefully she has a nice hatch rate. She did such a lovely job with the slew of chicks I dumped in her last time.

Might head to Hagersville auction on Friday. Just wish I could make up my mind; Ducks or Guinea Fowl. If Guinea fowl is the route I take then I'll just get from BVF, but gotta make up my mind.

Good luck tomorrow WLLady! Maybe take the surgeon some of the jam you brought me haha! Persuade him if need be!!! Good stuff. It's all gone :)

Hope everyone has a great day!

Cheers

Marans you say. Hmmm.

Sorry about your little one :( it's never an easy task to do the 'right' thing.

Morning. Feels like it's going to be a warm one.
Off to my younger daughters area track and field meet.

Was so excited last night about the shipped eggs forgot to mention locked down my other incubator with 12 of my Isbar, some Serama and some of my younger daughters project birds.
So, an update coming this week on that hatch.

While we where away camping this weekend, 3 more hens went broody. My husband sent me the message Sunday, too late to stuff more eggs under them. Our broodies have been doing a terrible job so far this year. Only hatching 1 or 2 chicks. Maybe better luck with these ones. Time will tell.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning,
Sounds like exciting times in the chick/duck departments everywhere. :)
Taking the dog for a walk in the morning accidentally walked thru a 4 crows 2 hawks disagreement close to the ground, it was like a Hitchcock movie, just covered my head and ran, while the dog was dragging me with ears pinned back pretty crazy, woke right up. ;)
Promised a friend some Lovage plant, so off to dig it up then some weeding while waiting for the sun to actually warm up the house, at this point warmer outside then inside.
Have a sunny day!

the potato garden is planted! 180 seed potatos, some actual seed potatos and some potatos gone to seed. we have white, red, n yellow plus the sweet potato slips brings the final count to 193. and as always better late than never. these gardens havent been turned in a few years so next year I wont be so far behind. I hope LOL.
