Why I like cows.

Post by Skinny rooster » Sun Jun 12, 2016 12:02 am

We used to be a beef farm and I often miss the cows. The other day I was reminded of one of the reasons why I like them. Our neighbour rents the pastures and Thursday morning a large wolf crept up to his herd. In seconds the mothers made a living wall around the calves and then 3 younger cows took off after the wolf at a speed that I have never seen before in cows ( and I know they can run) they just had this look of hate in their eyes. At first the wolf tried to trot away but suddenly realized he better run at top speed. If wolves wore pants, his would probably be stained right now. People think cows are this dumb animal with a bell around its neck but they can take care of themselves.

Awesome story..cattle aren't stupid, nor pushovers..they just do things their way...if my fences were up to snuff, I'd pasture a few ...

I have pictures from the trail cam of our 20 month old Holstein heifer standing by watching two coyotes kill a small sheep. I hope if we let her have a calf she'll get protective.
