chick with bad foot

I have a month old lemon cuckoo orpington chick that has found a hidden and forgotten about wood mouse trap that was buried in the shavings, it's foot is clearly broken, swollen, not sure how long it's been this way as I've been away all day, should I just let mother nature run her course or do something about it? It's not putting any weight on it or very active - understandable given the curcumstances

If the foot is warm, then If it were my chick I'd try splinting and bandaging. If the foot is cold, that's bad news. Is it one of the toes or higher up? A toe should heal quickly.

Splint it, it will heal better and be less troublesome later. Can use a cardboard base, tape the toes in place, if you are talking about the toes.

and you can give her aspirin for the pain...and keep her more quiet so she doesn't have to move around as much to eat/drink. a dog crate works well for this. info on aspirin and making it up can be found here: http://www.poultrytalkontario.net/forum ... rin#p12116
