I have an assortment of leghorns... and I got them to produce white eggs!

That's very interesting, all I ever see is rainbow/dark brown egg discussions so I thought the white egg layer was pullum non grata- seems more people like white eggs than I thought! :-D

I like the idea of mixing in white eggs with other colours.

Now that I have Silkie eggs I like the addition to my basket. But white I'm not crazy about. Pearl white I get from silkies is pretty in the basket.
I have a mental block over white eggs ... Grew up on the cheapest of all eggs from age 8 onwards and are still exposed to them if at my parents. To me associated white shelled eggs with factory farming ... That's just me.

You're not alone Robbie. : ) Before I made the decision to breed, I was planning a rainbow basket that included white (a la exchequer). People tend to favor things that are less common, so yeah, as someone who grew up on white grocery store eggs, I favor any colour over white.

As long as it tastes good, I don't care what colour shell it comes from!

And they always taste good to me.
... which reminds me, the question I am asked most often about my Ameraucana eggs is whether they taste different, which I think is kinda weird, because no one asks whether brown eggs and white eggs (both store bought) taste different.

Depends on how informed people are your selling eggs to . Years ago I had to take a city lady into hen house & lift a few red hens to show her the brown eggs I was selling her came from chickens not ducks .

I like the look of white eggs. I just didn't particularly enjoy the chickens I got them from (they were prod. white leghorns) and slowly moved away from them until all I had left of them were some crossbred progeny. Thinking seriously of getting some more white egg-layers in the spring though, because now I'm missing that big, bright white egg!

I've only got brown eggs- at the moment and would really like to get some brown leghorns in the spring...white eggs would be a nice visual in the mix and i can enjoy the chickens...now, let's see...some green egg layers next?...what to do, what to do......lol..but seriously, our various customers have different 'knowledge' groundings...it is what it is...we have to work with it...
