Good Morning!
Warning for those with gravel driveways. One of my hens was limping so last night I snagged her to check her out. Looked like bumblefoot but no. Closer inspection showed pieces of crusher gravel, quite large had got under the pad of her foot by the toes and started to be grown around. The pad was heavily callused and inflamed because of the pressure on either side of it. I removed the gravel and callus and she seems better now! Yuck poor girl.

Good Morning!
Mosquitos. I wish I could target practice with all these bleeping bleep mosquitos. Out of control!! I have put down 2 applications of garlic and gagged the entire time while spraying. Man that stuff is killer on the gag reflex. Just brutally smelly.
Every walk to the coop in the morning consists of being tangled in spider webs and fighting off the army of mosquitos. I get at least one bite each morning. Look out AntMan, by the end of the summer I will be Mosquito Chick. Seriously! So annoying. Speaking of AntMan, have y'all seen DeadPool yet? If not get on it. Best Marvel film to date. Umm, not really for young kids. Actually not at all, but soooo good! One of those movies you need to watch more than once to pick up on all the Witt.
No coyotes yesterday or this morning. Worked till 9:30 last night, then tried to go to sleep. Nope. Brain wouldn't shut down. So 2am this morning I'm still up cleaning the closet and sorting for donations etc. Heard the coyotes off in the distance with their choir practice. I'm feeling a bit obsessed with them. Maybe because I'm tired of counting to 9 SEVERAL times a day. (How many full growns I currently have). The polygamist takes them back into the woods and I swear at him each time under my breath. But then he brings them all back when they are done, and I count, 1.2.3...Kathy knows. She was counting more than I was when she was here LOL.
Did I tell everyone I'm getting a pup? Hahaha! Bet I did!
I've cut the grass 3 times in 8 days. We are on day 11 and I need to cut it again. No rain, yet the grass won't stop growing!!! So today I'll be cutting grass, 4 times in 11 days. I should be 12lbs with the amount of sweat that rolls off of me, but noooooooooo never the case. I use a push mower for the exercise, but some days I want an icy watermelon cocktail and a hottie in view from my deck, sweating while he cuts my grass. I'm not too picky, Chris Evans, Ryan Reynolds..you know, along those lines. Over share? Hahahaha!!
Well, with that lovely vision prepped for the ladies, I'm off and running!! Have a great day!

Good Morning!
Happy grass cutting sandy! mine is yellow. in may....unbelievable. i'm going to have to water. last weekend burnt the rest of what was left....sigh. horses eating hay again. sand is good in some ways...and so NOT good in others.
My bronze turkey jenny is STILL sitting! all the eggs are pitched dark when i candled last night. she had one that had been steamrollered and broken, complete with fuzzy chick inside 2 days ago :-( sigh. fingers crossed something hatches for her....
i had that with one hen too KB! i thought it was a fluke! it was just after we'd gotten new gravel put down, and figured she'd been digging in the loose stuff! thankfully caught in time before it turned into something worse. Glad you spotted it!
watered the garden for about 2 hours yesterday...its finally looking okay....have some squash to replant (didn't sprout-probably just baked in the heat), and the beans are slowly coming up, and the corn has sprouted too already. a couple places to mulch yet...potatoes are growing like crazy! time to get them weeded and mulched. and just realized i lock down the next hatch on friday already! time flies! but it's only tuesday...still a long way to go to the weekend. ;-P
alright. good news is i should know about if surgery is happening or not by the end of the 15th, so at that point i will know about whether we can make the Piknik.
RedNinja, hope those girls do well for you! I got 2 eggs from the 3 each of the last 3 days, so hopefully they don't take too long a break in laying for you!
hope everyone has a fun, happy, chicken filled day

Good Morning!
I know my Jennie had a chick hatch by yesterday morning first thing. There is food and wter inside the coop but she's showing no sign of getting up for anything. Think maybe I'll leave her until tonight to take the rest of the eggs away????? Don't want the one baby to die. I have a hatcher ready just in case.

Good Morning!
Hoping for good news from the CT Scan for you today WLLady. Fingers crossed!!
Well, I got 37 peppers planted yesterday, and the squash plants. I still have to put in seeds of the gourds I bought from Veseys. I also want to plant beets. Haven't done that yet. Thinking I will forgo the potatoes (threw out octopuses, a blue box full, and 2 five gallon pails of them that we didn't eat). So.... will just buy. We just don't seem to eat many any more. Maybe once a week. Although, they are delicious right out of the garden. Na....
Delivered some pepper plants to a bus driver friend after our runs this morning. Met her on the road. I still have some for my sister, and a neighbour, and I may throw some in somewhere else. Its nice to have alot... because you end up eating the first green ones, but once they come on fast and furious, you can leave some on to become yellow/orange/reds.
I have to do a feed run this morning. If Colleen is home... I may run up to her place for some fish! Her and her hubby visited on the weekend past. They are calling for rain on Thursday. That will be nice, so maybe get the rest of those onions in. If I don't, I've already got enough in. They are cheap enough to buy too, lol.
I NEED to cut grass around the house. Its LONG! I cut it longer, so it doesn't die in the heat, but now its all gone to seed, looks ugly. AND the mosquito's are thriving in it. Walk thru the lawn, and they cloud up in masses. Hate those things. I got driven from the garden last night, trying to fill water pails for today.
I got a farm statistics survey in the mail yesterday. IT MIMICS THE FREAKING CENSUS ONE!!!!!!!!!! TO A T. WTH?? They even put a little line in there that says, "we recognize that completing both surveys places an extra burden on farmers"..... like come on. All they have to do is go to Agri-stability and Agri-corp AND CRA to get all the information they are asking on this form. I even put a nasty note on the Census one, that putting these out in MAY is ludicrous, as most farmers are out all day every day, especially if they have livestock... and to have it out in March. Stupid. Stupid government.
So... wondering if ignoring this will put us in jail. It says completing this is a legal requirement. Come and get me then.
