Good Morning!
Bees? Hmmm i haven't been paying attention but no bees are out this morn. Our street is a bunch of old homestead farms with a ring of forest around it. But one neighbour died and now there's corn/soy and that place looks like a burnt wasteland when not in crop. Lots of apple trees here (over 50 wild trees) so i'll keep watch.
And since Donny passed on no one has been "controlling" the beavers. So a few dams have been built at the creek below the our house. There's no decent trees for them to flood so i've let them be and the frogs are double happy. First the peepers, then greens, then leopards, then toads, (no more bullfrogs :-(, they've been gone since I was a kid) so I'm lulled to sleep by swamp canaries.

Good Morning!
I just came back from a day in Toronto, nice to visit but glad I don't live there. I come home to a sky full of stars, singing frogs (and roosters, and wild turkeys), and crickets in season.
My brother is at Toronto General and it looks like he's top of the line for a transplant. We'll know more today.

Good Morning!
We had a 5 min walk from the subway to our hotel and what stuck in my head was the cloud of black out of the city buses. What are they burning...bunker fuel? Buses didn't do that when I was in Germany.
For comparison I've been to Atlanta a few times, in mid summer: 5 million people...no smog! The city is a forest. From a rotating restaurant in the tallest downtown building...you cannot see the ground. Visibility was 100 miles on July 1st. I could see the Stone Mountain Park: pretty neat place: a steep ridge of red rock with a forest on top.

Good Morning!
Good luck still for your brother. No matter what the views are, about him and the transplant.... one doesn't like to see someone suffer. Hopefully he will clean up his act! Although I completely agree on someone else MORE deserving.
Sorry Tango is such a... such a.... such a... well, no words can be said, lol. I know what a persistant little bugger he really is, lol. But he is a kind dog, and Martin loves him!! (I know you do too,), but its not hard to get pissed at him, lol.
Well, this bugger of a cold is imbedding itself more. Don't know why. The sinus's are really hurting. Headache even. Took some tylenol sinus earlier, it only lasted 2 hours. Took some more, and its not throbbing as much. I can freaking breathe thru my nose, so whats up with that? Cheekbones under my eye are so sore and tender. I have been using the neti-pot too. Feels so good.
The holiday weekend was a wash with this crap, and looks like this weekend is going to be the same. I'm so so tired too. Even tho I sleep for the most part.
I still have onions to plant, but its been so beastly hot. I have been watering whats in, spot watering, so that takes time. I put the soaker hose on the asparagus last night. Well, yesterday afternoon at 2pm, until 9:15pm. Oops. Oh well. Its DEEPLY watered, mulched heavily, so its good for awhile.
I think maybe this weekend, I will put some peppers in. Theres tons. If a hailstorm wipes them out, it can do it now as anytime. We are getting dry too. Looks like the chances of rain, are very slim ones.
I'm going to go outside and warm up. Been under a blanket in here!

Good Morning!
Turning a hay field into a garden. Use your pigs. We have a portable pen and we just keep move the pigs up and down the area to become a garden. They eat the plants and roots, the bugs and they fertilize and plow the land.

Good Morning!
Evening all, worked 10 hours flagging in Harrisburg yesterday....can really use the extra money ...then had to get up early to load 50 bales of hay for a customer that of course didn't realize how low on hay she was and "oh my...its a holiday weekend!!!" ...what does that have to do with noticing there is only ONE BALE LEFT IN THE BARN!!!???!!?? ...of course I have no life and can drop everything, unhook the trailer and load up hay for her so her fat spoiled horse (who is out in pasture) doesn't miss a meal, enough ranting (sorry) ( charged her an extra buck a bale, she didn't care, made me feel better}
Chicks are doing well, lost one to a cat when the lil grandson opened the pen and decided to crawl in with them....scared a few out and wiley ol mama cat pounced and ran off with one before we could get to it. Have a bunch of eggs saved to go in the bator again, trying to find some EOs but so far no luck locally, still trying.
Having a walkway built across the stream in the meadow....later also drilling a well over there and putting in waterers so the cattle wont be muddying up the creek ....government's way of cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay, hubby figures we can do it now or be made to do it later by EPA...farmers are really getting heat about nutrient runoff getting into the bay.
We made 4 wagon loads of first cutting hay this week....lots of rain storms in our forcast the next few days, guessing your folks up north would like some...sounds like you are pretty dry. Hub planted 50 acres of corn for the trench and we have around 200 acres of hay to make. Hopefully mostly big bales!

Good Morning!
Yes we sure could use the rain. Rideau Valley is in what they call a "minor drought" situation. A couple of years ago I was saving laundry and washup water and taking it to the veggies.
I finally got one of those Kneelies that are supposed to help you get up and stuff when gardening. A little awkward at first but it's great! It's low enough I can sit to weed rather than kneel on my healing knee. Misty morning here, try to transition the turkey poults to their new outdoor quarters, no more stinky basement! Even little runty guy is doing well (he'll die now just wait). Have a good one all.
