Who's there who who?
I was off work Wednesday and decided to finish planting the garden, when around 11:30 owls began calling. I thought it kind of odd on a bright sunny day but then it turned kind of creepy. All sorts of different types of owls began calling from all over, some really close to me and some just to the edge of my hearing range. I said to a friend that I was being to expect a really bad thunder storm or an earthquake, something strange along those lines. The hooting and calling went on for about 45 minutes, nothing happened but it was very strange, play the theme from the X-Files.

good call Ross... "who cooks for you" = who who, who who. i wish the turkeys would come back to my bush!!!
ya that is pretty creepy SR! iv never heard such a thing. one night at camp there was 2-3 seperate weird noises going on. whinning like a horse, I never heard it before at the time. so I followed one of the sounds with my dewalt spot light... found a tiny little screach owl up in a tree. really cool!
If it was aliens you prolly wouldnt remember unless they screwed up the procedure.
ever seen the movie the 4th kind? thats one heck of a creepy movie. Owls represent aliens. dont watch it before bed LOL.

A mob of crows will unsettle the owls. Crows are their worse enemy and will raid the nests; stealing eggs and young. The pair of horn owls here fled from a mob, and did so with loud protests in an afternoon.

al, that sound is a night heron. we have loads of them around here, they sound like a shrill horse whinny and go on and on especially around dusk. they hunt fish and frogs in the ravines, and sit up in the trees and then dive down and spear them....i've found them roosting on my one tree stand down by the creek in our ravine. Never seen them before until just a few years ago, but probably just because i'd never seen them-we've heard them for years.
I think there are some owls moving through the area. we had a bunch of them going about a week ago, also probably nesting season too....

So lol, no not turkey calls and if crows were a problem I would have heard them loud and squawking clear over the owls. It was perfectly still out, not a sound until the owls started up. Different types, "who cooks for you" was the most kind at it but also something like that horse sounding one, plus the one that sounds "whoowa whoowa" and just the regular "who who" guys. Very strange, I have never heard something like that before. Thought it might be owlmageddon.

Thanks for posting this Al, as I have heard these in the bush across the road from me and always wondered what the heck was making that noise. Puzzle solved!!!
