My vote is c since they are turning is opposite directions essentially.Robbie wrote:QR_BBPOST 3. Twiddled bolts
Two identical bolts are placed together so that their helical grooves intermesh as shown below. If you move the bolts around each other as you would twiddle your thumbs, holding each bolt firmly by the head so that it does not rotate and twiddling them in the direction shown, will the heads (a) move inward,
(b) move outward, or
(c) remain the same distance from each other?
And i will step away from the math test too...not hard for me but i am 1) married to a guy that teaches math and 2) calculating a lot of other things like serial dilutions every day....

A woman has two hour glasses. One runs for 5 minutes the other runs for 7 minutes.
She wants to time 13 minutes. How does she do it?
I would do it like this:
pull my cell phone, turn it on and say: "OK Google, set timer for 13 minutes".
But I am a techie... :ugeek:

What, nobody has any answers? I've messed around with the hourglass one, it's hurting a bit! Either that or it's the beer slowing down the neurons.
I'd run out the 7 minute one, then start the 5 minute one, then count one steamboat two steamboat....... to 60.
Have to try harder. Maybe later.
Sandy I'm going to guess 1.

All I can think for the hour glass one is that there isn't a combo, but it would require stopping one early or adding an extra minute on the end. Or knowing how much 1 minute of sand is. There isn't any combination for 13 minutes without addicting or deducting.

Oh, looks like I found a good one with the hour glass one...
Hint:
Sand is running down the hour glass for 20 min to time the 13min. No guess work needed.
I'll post the solution tonight unless someRobbie found it before...
I am amazed that Google didn't get the math question 9-3/(1/3)+1= correct right from the beginning. You know that you can just type these kinds of math questions into the search box of google right? Helps with checking math/physics/chemistry homework A LOT! (Note, I am saying "checking", not "doing"!)

Sandy it' s scary just how quickly I forget how to do basic math, when I'm not practicing doing it.
They say doing math wards off dementia!
I didn't know Google could answer math questions!
Don't post the hour glass one yet! I'll be too tempted to peek! But you can bring on another one to try in the mean time.
Yes the bolts are supposed to stay in place, one action undoes the other.
