Turned out there really were 10. I feel some may come to ä bad end" as they say in cautionary tales because they don't listen to Mother!

Prophetic words Jan. We went indoors for about 15 mins, no fuss heard or anything, but 4 of the babies managed to get up into a tall water bucket (no idea how) and drown themselves. Poor hubby found them ugh!

Ahh, the poult mass suicide. One of the great mysteries of earth :/ My girl that was sitting, refused to leave the nest after three hatched, and eventually they got hungry and wandered off, never to be heard from again. I only ever found one of them, and the barn's not that big. I finally gloved up and turfed her off, of the 8 eggs left, 1 clear, two rotters and 5 had been steamrollered while hatching. Auuuggghh! She stayed broody on absolutely nothing for over a week, I'd find her in various places sitting on a duck egg, a chunk of concrete, or absolutely nothing at all. Other BSW jen is still laying, and STILL dropping most of her eggs from a standing position! Only about one in five has a good air cell, and even those don't start developing. Lacy has been throwing herself at the toms for months, but if she's laying again, she's hiding them well. They make me think of dinosaurs in so many ways, and I find it a wonder they have survived at all!

Oh that's too bad about the babies, I've heard a lot of people say they just take the babies or they end up with nothing.
