Blasted bureaucrats- can you sketch in a window that opens? ;-) That air exchanger system works just fine in our house.

The problem is that most new houses are so tightly sealed that it creates a negative pressure when opening doors etc. As well if burning wood or other appliances without a fresh air inlet. A house has to breathe too

New houses are tight and built of chipboard, glue, and plastic and chipboard breeds mold.
Plus the glue, fire retardants (on furniture) give off gas and dust. Same as a "new car smell".
So their answer is airflow; sick building syndrome. Its a big problem in commercial offices where YOU CAN't open a window.

Liberal Governments canceled a gas plant at election time a few years ago; in favour of constructing one further away from point of use. Causing extra gas pipelines to be built and Power lines to bring the power back. This week we hear that they could have got out of a contract with Samsung but instead renegotiated a contract to produce power that we don't need. How much have these actions contributed to climate change? I won't even mention the 2 billion wasted. oops!

The icing on the cake was when they put hydro rates up because we saved too much energy, and they lost money
So to do my part in keeping rates low, next spring, I'm going to be running two Sportsman incubators plus eight heat lamps. And maybe a few extras, all during peak time hours.

Yeah, houses are supposed to be built tight..and they sorta are...and its stupid...make a mould box and try to mitigate it by running a machine 80% of the time to swap out air...brilliant...just effin brilliant...but i go and build a house that exceeds all the rules but do it without the HRV and i cant get the final ( which i don't give a crap about anyway ) ..my point is that they have no leeway..the rules are just too inflexible...and they shouldn't be..the inspectors all go by the book...if its not in there they wont approve it...no common sense...its all about potential litigation and covering their as--s...does hell in a handcart ring a bell?

Yep, "the boys" took apart the hunt camp and moved it to a better location (and expanded it, better insulation) etc. its used three weeks per year and has an outhouse. But it "doesn't exist". My neighbour wanted to build a hunt camp, and he went to the township for a building permit (bad move) the township wanted signed plans, and a permit, and a septic bed ($20,000). What? The boys are happy with an outhouse.

The rules are there for a reason, but they lack flexibility when it makes sense.
