Good Morning!

Post by redninja » Mon May 09, 2016 1:56 pm

Had a busy weekend over at Dorchester International Brotherhood Camp with our Scout group. So many different Scout uniforms all in one place. A lot of groups up from the states and one group from Sudbury.
We were so close to WLLady, we just had to make a visit. Fantastic set up and beautiful birds.
Thank you WLLady for the royal tour, great tea and a fabulous talk on genetics and some lab procedure tips.
It only took just over 3 hrs to scoot home. Back roads are the way to go. We are going to try and plan another trip down later in summer, hopefully to get fresh Wheaten Ameracauna genes for our flock, and beautiful heritage Rhode Island Reds.
Well, I have lower room to clean out to set up 5 or 6 separate breeding pens with outside runs, and 5 Spy trees to get planted.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Evening , got a notice to either use computer for filling out census form or call them & they'll send out a paper copy to arrive in 5 days . It arrived today, 5 days . Thought they were all the thick form . Guess not just a skinny little one
Asking very little cept info they have already & how many in house . Go figure bureaucrats .
Luck , is an attitude .

Luck of the draw, Ross. I've had to fill out the fat form a number of times, but the last few years it's just been the skinny one.

Scored at TSC at the weekend! Got one of those fold up tent thingys with extendable legs. 8x10 for $79.99. If you only put the legs up halfway it's a perfect size to put on the all purpose 3ft tall wire frames for a baby pen! Will need to find a hook to hang brooder lamp though.

Morning all, long day spent in the truck on the road hauling home bedding. We use baled straw pieces....from an erosion blanket maker in the next small town. the tiny pieces that wont stay in the netting falls through and goes to a big baler that compacts into 3x4 big bales wrapped in 5 strands of 14 guage wire, hate the wire but when you bust open a bale....POOF! wonderful bedding!!! On the down side the straw is so fine I have to tarp each load or it will blow away on the trip home, lol. Two more calves yesterday...one has buckled front feet, tight tendons, had to help it nurse and of course a bull calf...stubborn! Should straighten out in a couple of weeks. Lots of calves to dehorn before letting them out to pasture with momma. Hubby called a fence man to fix the busted fence down by the creek...an annual event each spring as at least one or two slide vehicles slide down the hill and through the fence each winter. chicks are doing fine....time to move the dusty little fluffies out of the kitchen but the weather just wont warm up and even with a heat lamp I think 50* is just too cold for them yet... Thursday it is supposed to be down in the 30's...yikes, and its the middle of May
