Sharks! What the heck happened
So I gave the flock left over chicken stock and I poached some eggs into it for them. Umm. I felt like sharks were in my back yard. They turned on each other and it got ugly fast ... Even the rooster went after a few of them. I'm assuming to get it under control? ... I took it away. What happened?
I'm thinking I'll seperate it into a few containers and try again? Although I'm wondering if I should.
First time I've seen them get nasty like THAT!

Personally I don't feed chicken to chicken or any other like animal back to them selves . Sounds like your birds turned into aggressive cannibals . Luck

Very interesting. They get chicken often here. This is simply stock with poached eggs. But Im very intrigued. It settled the minute the pot was taken away.
I think I'll leave well enough alone lol!

Sandy do you give your birds any meat protein other than eggs? There's nothing chickens like better than chicken. I don't ever feed them raw poultry (commercial flocks are not necessarily free of disease). I do feed them raw beef and bone sawdust (the fine meat grounds that's left over after meat is cut up, ask a butcher you might be able to get it free or cheap) and mealworms.
Even so I split up the portion and spread it far apart so there's no conflict.
They must have REALLY liked the stock and eggs but be careful, chickens don't handle salt well.

Seems to me for feed companies the government banned feeding critters back to critters in prepared feed cause of decease . Even eggs if fertilized have embryos .

They get meal worms. They get left overs ... Chicken, pork, beef whatever it is, they get scrambled eggs and marrow bones and most recently they got pork fat hung from pen and they demolished that. No fighting no thing.

No matter what you feed as treats if they are in one spot they will get nasty. Feeding raw back to same species is a definite no...cooked isnt so bad-it kills most things. But it wont kill the prions that cause mad cow and scrapies...is there a mad chicken disease? Never run across that. Chickens can get "hooked" on salt though...i would definitely not feed high salt anything-chickens have enough heart troubles as is....

Just my thought ? Is why would you feed leftover human feed to chickens I'd think you would never know what your balance of vit, minerals , protien etc their getting . With all the , even organic supposedly , if yu feel the need , with all the good well balanced chicken feeds out there I'm at loss . Luck

This is stock. To me stock is not soup...maybe to others it's being assumed as soup? No salt. Chicken bones boiled down with carrots, potatoes, bay leaves and onions. That's it that's all. No salt, no pepper.
Well they won't get stock with poached eggs again. ever.
I always feed together and have NEVER had a problem with treats etc. Until today. I don't have 100 chickens either *wink wink*
Chickens friggin exhaust me! They better hope they make it onto my New Years list cause these last 6 months has left my brain scrambled, like their eggs!
Seriously. One week. All I want. No chaos.

Ross, personally I'm good with left overs .... I don't have a problem with them getting it, organic or not. It's all good in my books. Their primary food needs to be their feed but table scraps I'm good with.
