performance Poultry

Post by JimW » Sat Apr 30, 2016 8:59 pm

I picked my chickens up from Performance Friday afternoon. Everyone looked good, I only ordered 25 chickens in total, changed my mind since ordering so I sold the 5 Speckled Sussex pullet and 5 Buff Brahma pullet chicks. I kept the 5 Exchequer Leghorn pullet chickens and the 10 straight run Mottled Houdan chicks.

Photo is 1 Houdan and 1 Leghorn.

JimW ~ I bought the 3 Mottled Houdans from Performance 5 years ago.
Ended up with all roos, but they were HANDSOME!
Everyone wanted them, since I didn't have females I sold them.
Performance had some really nice looking Houdans.
Can't wait to see pics of them!

I am hoping for a good number of pullets. I have 3 Houdans that I hatched last summer, 1 hen and 2 roosters. So don't need too many roosters.

Lots of nasty crap on FB the last couple of days about Performance Poultry but that is Fb for you....I think it is time I cut the cord. Anyway I had a lovely experience yesterday when I picked up my birds, my order wasn't exact but my balance had been adjusted accordingly, the woman was very friendly and efficient (I didn't catch her name) The property was easy to find and was lovely ( I didn't hear any banjo's playing in the background...now I have probably offended banjo players!) I did come home short one bird that I did pay for but in the big scheme of things it was a $3.95 oops that I am willing to forgive. I am happy with the chicks, they are all active and eating and drinking well, moving in out of the brooder lamp on their own and generally just being really cute. I will deal with them again next year, they are in my backyard and beats ordering chicks from the feed store.

Luv your selection of chicks.
Will run a lot of Color in your yard.

I would say about 1/2 my standard size flock is from my original order from Performance.
That was 4 1/2 or 5 yrs ago.
I never went back but only because I had enough birds. I would definetly order from them again.

I was disappointed the Ameraucanas were actually EEs, but I was young(er) & naive.
The EEs are one of my Favorites so is all ok.

I haven't read anything on FB about Performance but I also haven't looked b

My new obsession is Silkies & Showgirls.
Those breeders are in the other direction.

That's a shame, :-(
Was it a weak chick to start with? I hope the rest will be OK.

No everyone was fine...just went up to check the incubator (in the same room) and it was just laying there under the heat lamp...

Cute chicks, congratulations.
I don't understand the bad press Jason at PP gets. He does a great job supplying heritage breeds to Ontario. I don't know anyone else that offers the breeds he does.
