Making Babies

Post by Home Grown Poultry » Sun Apr 17, 2016 9:10 pm

Thanks Norma and PP!!! :-)

Well were a big family of 8 and were gluten free. we go through on average 18 eggs in a day. We make everything home made and all natural/organic as much as possible. Lizzie will bake for an entire day every week and sometimes more.

I have about 30 hens right now :-)

Good luck on your hatch!!!

Congratulations on the great hatch!
18 eggs a day!?!?
Wow.
I think you should hatch some more
You, if any of us, really "need" more hens. Lol
Congrats again
Cute little babies

thegawd wrote:QR_BBPOST All right so I believe one of my LF RIR Hens just went broody. she sure as heck is acting like it anyways. heading out right now to give her back a dozen eggs. will find out soon I guess.

Edit: well she sucked them all under her one at a time. I think shes guna follow through. this is a first for me. she started sitting on 1, so I thought lets make it a bakers dozen. i fluffed up the bedding and gave her some more hay. im sure she can handle them.

Good luck Al with broody
Mine gave up. Dusted herself in nest with eggs in nest. Finally broke another egg
I took all eggs away. She's been sitting in coop all day everyday sulking!
I'm just so afraid with her doing that she will teach the others to eat the eggs
Since she's been out. No problems

my latest hatch results are not as good as previous hatches but I did have some trouble with the fan in the incubator. I had to move the eggs over to the hatcher for about 12 hours until i fixed the fan. it needed oiled but I am going to replace it soon. I also forgot to lockdown on time... the chick that pipped in the incubator did end up shrink wrapped but I was able to easily unwrap it and popped right out a happy healthy chick. im still happy with my results. quite a few eggs didn't hatch and I had to cull a few. these numbers are chicks in the brooder.

23/52 blue band RIR
13/19 green band RIR one was way lighter than usual and was marked for future ID...
17/18 light brown leghorn. 10 of the leghorns are black with black legs n beaks again so I guess the last chicks i gave to Farrier are not EE's LOL. 7 are LB.

thanks OC! yup theres a chick in that cup! these chicks are having there very first drink. its a great feeling when you see them figuring out how to do things and that I really was not trying to drown them seconds before. HAHA

Well I think Im guna fill up the incubator one last time and that will be it for chickens n turkeys, quail are next! I have 4 quail eggs saved! Im really looking forward to drastically increasing my JMF Jumbo Coturnix flock! They are big birds at over a pound and lay the biggest quail eggs Iv ever seen.
