Good Morning!

Post by Flat Rock Farm » Wed Apr 13, 2016 8:42 am

Yes Kathy I will be glad to finally take your sweet potato shoots off the top of my refrigerator and put them in the shed. I put them on the workbench in front of the window (faces south) and I set it up like a cold frame. It has been too cold to move them since I got them from you! What a difference a week makes, looking forward to the milder temps!!

a friend of mine decided to start her morning glories in the house this year. she gave me a pot....they are climbing up the blinds in my livingroom right now-i'll have to extract them carefully. i cannot wait to be able to put them OUT! usually i seed those direct into the garden in the spring, they grow like crazy. LOL.

i gotta order the fencing for the turkey pens....need to do that very very soon! it would be really nice to let them out, but the wild turkeys are hanging around way too close to the barn-i swear the girls inside are pulling them in (maybe will make hunting season easier? one can hope!)...i don't want to lose any birds to the great outdoors! i see TSC has 10x10x6 dog kennels on sale again today...hm....

Beautiful crisp morning here,
Cast off yesterday, my wrist looks like it belongs to somebody else, was looking forward to being able to put my watch on, but it doesn't fit.
So I guess it will be a while, the nice young man said it will look just like new in no time, didn't have the heart to tell him that at my age NOTHING is ever as good as new, would be happy with gently used, but for that I guess I would have had to use it gently ;)
Send DH off with pre-sold eggs, equipped with a picture of the Ameraucana eggs Sandy posted, and a picture of actual Ameraucanas.:)
*****
Anybody saw the very short News blurb on TV about largest study on Corn oil versus saturated Fats ( possibly from the Sixties ) that was never published because the results were disappointing???????
Have a safe one!

Good morning all! Wcowgirl, lovely big sign! I love the colours! Sorry about the chick's guys, that ismy least favourite part of the job. WLLady, sometimes a bird will not leave the nest as long as there's an egg in it even a rotten one. I'd check them and finish incubating yourself if they're still good, so she gets off and tends to the hatched ones.
KB are you starting any Cardinal morning glories? Would love one of those if you've got a spare!
I've had 5 birds go broody like dominoes the past week...a turkey, a Muscovy and 3 hens. I've given them all eggs except the duck, she hasn't been with a Drake and is too messy to let her have other kinds of eggs. I blocked off her nest, put old Spits with her, and from the looks of her behind will lay again soon. Spits is 20, we'll see if he can get the job done at his age. He seems to be doing a lot of trying, but not a lot of finishing LOL. We'll see. Early for the domino broody effect, usually it's June. Hopefully this means I'll actually have eggs in June this year!
OC, glad you got that thing off. The muscles will be smaller from disuse, the tendons and ligaments tight. No worries, you will get it back as long as you don't favour it too much!

Just candled the next batch of turkey eggs at Day 5. All are fertile 23/23. Some look a little slower but they were cold or dropped in the open paddock. This gives me 40 poults if they don't all quit on me now and I am in deep do-do! Lets hope at least SOME hatch and I haven't jinxed it. The ones I candled at 10 days look active when you shine the torch on them, like "get that out of my face"! Fingers crossed now.
