thanks Jaye and everyone else for the good vibes. Most of the work depends on a lot of factors... when were done in this house in a few days the next one wont be ready for a while... beginning of may. so who knows... we only board drywall in new construction for the most part and the building season is coming... so I won't be missing the turkey opener LOL.

Congrats Al!! Hanging board is a little hard on the upper body but good thing you've been keeping busy at home.

Silkie broody hatched 3 of her 4 eggs yesterday. Omg! My babies are gorgeous!!!

Rooster is a barred rock. 1 brown egg hatched was a barred rock. 2 eggs hatched were green, so Easter egger crossed with a barred rock roo. They all look the same haha. 1 green egg left. She's still sitting on it, so I'll give her a day or two.

The Ameraucana chicks are growing like weeds. Wow!!! I gotta figure something out for their water today. The little ones make such a MESS of it. I need to get it off the ground just enough. Like usual, I'll get'er done.

Might hit the flamborough event this weekend. Need to build some raised beds this weekend.

Does admin/forum have all the info on the Niagara Feather Fanciers Club BST? At the new fairgrounds ? June 12th I think it is. It's going to be advertised if not already in some papers. I'll look in PTO's events and check to see if it's there, if it isn't there, I'll email and get details and pass on to admin.

Hmmm, 42 babies is a lot of chicks.

Have a good day

Good morning, Finished cleaning up the living room from having DD's 5 little ones yesterday....they are an active bunch! total of 5 live hatchlings and one died....little thing got out but insides weren't all in...poor baby. Awesome photo instructions for the hovabators !!! thanks so much, my one has yellow components like this one and the other has black even though it is also a 1588 with the same components. I was able to read the instructions by blowing them up and it said a power surge could screw things up and how to reset the toggle switch....did it and hoping for more normal temps. The other one seems to be holding at 100.
Got a lady coming today for a load of hay if the rain stops, need to bed the cattle and for some reason the one curtain on the new barn wont come down...need a good maintenance man...inside joke, hubby is head of that department at work....he just spends so much time there he has no time to do what is needed done here! Wouldn't it be nice if farmers could make a living at it and didn't need an outside job to keep things going? Insurance alone would break us .... well, gotta get out to the barn, another gal looks ready to pop..

Farrier's horse and shoemaker's wife........ :)
The Hovabators are interesting, I have come across that in other small manufacturer products.
I have purchased 2 in a span of 6 years I think, the same model with bunch of small improvements not really justifying Model number change.
Also the components are outsourced, so may come from different suppliers.
The major difference I found, the instructions for the first one were suggesting filling 2 trays with water, which by tweaking I found was way too much humidity when measured by "wet bulb" (this is before PSO and the dry hatching movement) and by the time I purchased the next one, they had lots of the problems addressed in the instructions.
I guess even manufacturers can learn :)

Yep OC mfg do learn from customers . When I was in RV appliance repair business new appliances were mfg then installed in new units then we , techs , in field did the fine tuning for them . Very upsetting to the end user . Luck

well, good morning everyone!!!!

ha ha, i found the same thing OC, with my first hovabator. so now i use it for incubating and another newer model for the hatching. LOL
but of course, i now have a sportsman, and 3 yellow fuzzybutts this morning and a bunch more pipped (turkeys), so i'm not sure that i'll go back to the hovabators for larger hatches now, probably for fertility tests...
the one thing with the sportsman, it drinks water, the fans are quite heavy duty, and i'm filling water trays every 3 days. so i'm going to invest in the water system for it (or make one).

beautiful morning, sunny, cool (i don't mind). was having breakfast watching two HUGE wild tom turkeys putter up my field. The one is limping something fierce....i wanted to run out and help it, check for wounds LOL. i think having domestic turkeys has scarred me for life! it's a WILD turkey, i would never get close to it, plus i hunt the things and put them in my freezer...um. and i want to check it for injuries. LOL. i gotta get a life. but it was limping so pathetically....

my brooding jenny had one dead poult and one live under her last night when i got home. i had to use a rake handle to get the dead one out....she has deadly aim with that beak....i'm glad i used the rake. my arm appreciates that i used the rake. there were still 9 unhatched under there, so leaving her till tonight to see what else hatches. i put some chick feed and a low waterer in reach for the chicks, they'll only have about 8 inches to run to get to it....and i think it's mostly out of mom's way so hopefully she won't knock them over. i didn't check this morning, but will later on today, with chainmail and gloves LOL. (or the rake again-i can lift her with the handle pretty well). and IF she broods these guys well, they can stay with her for a while.

set a pile of eggs for various orders last night to the sportsman :-) i have never set this many eggs at once...kinda scary really. but lots of people wanting ameraucanas and easter eggers and cornish chicks. so. we shall see how it goes!
hope everyone has a great day!
