Infectious Laryngotracheitis
For all .... Please see in the attachment ... on Friday April 1,2016... OMAFRA has confirmed an outbreak of ILT at a hobby flock in Dufferin County (Orangeville / Shelburn area of Ontario) ... OMAFRA is suggesting a hightened level of biosecurity should be in place and practiced. This virus can be devastating with losses of 2/3rd of your flock or greater... Being that we are approaching the season where there are many open air ( swap type ) sales and spring auction sales for small stock, it is highly advised that quarantine of any knew arrivals be practiced.

Lost my flock of over 60, mostly quality breeds, from ILT about 5.5 years ago..be very careful to make sure new stock is not brought in that has been vac. with the live virus. Quarantine was not enough to avoid this horrid disease.
I researched the cause of my losses and that most likely was it for me.
Good luck.

Thanks for telling us that happened Norma, just awful for you. I would hope people declare vaccines in the birds they sell.

Discussed this at a poultry club meeting last night. Seems to be debated with a few members that the non-shedding vaccine doesn't work, or at least not as well/reliable. If I do the shedding the flock is in lock down for 30 days.

The non-shedding vaccine is less effective but you do a booster shot. I use this rather than the shedding form. For me it's the best compromise.
