QR_BBPOST Well I am here every day, but I only post when I can add something useful (or witty). My yard is a bunch of mud, and too soft to drive on or I'd be moving more manure.

I keep watching shows like "Debbie Travis la Dolce Vita" and thinking "my place could look like that if I had a half million to hire landscapers and stonemasons." As it is, I have to stop whining and get to work.

Baron this is what you need: A willow ground roll. forget nuts, join us in the Willow Consortium and grow shrub willows. I'm growing them, they are fast and easy, and have a bazillion uses. the Brits have been doing it forever.

Ty Sandy, I spent my childhood flipping through encyclopedias, playing chess and poker. I used to tell jokes, now I'm a storyteller (its a much better way to be a salesperson). And i'm good at remembering stories and the lessons they are meant to teach us. (My favorite poster: in the style of those "inspirational" ones on office walls. Its a pic of a shipwreck in shallow water with the caption "maybe the purpose of your life is to serve as a warning to others.)

I've come to the "awakening" that there are more important things than money. I'll take a lawn chair watching my chickens over watching tv anyday.

One thing missing in todays kids is that they don't know much, they only know how to look stuff up. So they miss the connections between things that seem unrelated but have had a huge impact on human history. Such as food and world travel and colonies. I.e. Right now I'm drinking a glass of port. Will start a new thread with the story of food.

Hey everyone.
Well I'm a newbie to this chicken/farming thing but really exited about the whole thing. I've just set my second batch in the incubator this morning. First time was a fail after day 9 since the thermostat was not properly calibrated (my bad!). I got 12 silver laced wayndotte eggs from a gentleman in Hamond and 12 Ameraucanas from a very helpful pto member (Thanks, Ontario Chic) which I had a pleasure to meet with yesterday. If all goes well this time I should be a proud mother in about +/- 21 days. :rooster7: ...
Other interests I have are spending time at the cottage, hunting (moose, deer, turkey, grouse...), travel and taking care of my wife, daughter and son. Not necessarily in that order.
Been living in Ottawa and working as an electrician in the construction industry for more than 29 year. Although I work in the office as part of the project design team now, I still very much enjoy the hands on part of building things. "Man, hearing that makes me feel pretty old. " lol!!
Well that's enough about me for now.
Looking forward in possibly meeting other members in the future.

right on Farm 4 Fun! sweet deal! did you build you incubator? I built 2 and a hatcher, I love the design and building challenge! then having it work is such a rewarding experience!
