I love this idea. I will need to come up with a revision of this idea just because of number of chickens.

I really like that idea, especially for the outside run. I put food in a tray but a lot gets wasted!!

do that on a drum or garbage can and put the whole bag in. its on my list of things to do... you should be able to put the whole bag in that as well but I dont like the recessed lid. it will fill up with water... or keep undercover inside the coop. i only feed in the coop as I dont want to feed the wild birds.

I don't want to feed in coop. Chipmunks run in and out all day if I do. And the last thing I want is to invite any rodent or any animal of any kind into the coop, except the flock.
What do you mean feed the wild birds Al? They would have to climb in right? Or am I missing something?

sparrows, starlings, etc... once they find a jack pot food source like that its next to impossible to get rid of them. just like your evil chipmunks. and carry diseases mites ect. I dont feed any seed type feed outside anymore at the new place, just leftovers.
rodents were blamed for spreading Avian Influenza, chipmunks are rodents.
lots of target practise with my 22 pellet gun never stopped those birds. if I could afford to wrap every single 1/4 Inch of pen both sides n roof I would. darn varmits! now i sound like Elmer Fud!

Maybe you need to keep those kittens Al. I came home to a Robin gift on my front steps. GROSS. My girl brings home moles every day. First year my lawn is t demolished. Still early, but buy now it's normally mole-ified.

Cats r great. But make sure u have good pens. They like to eat vermin and love chicks.
Mine got 8 flying squirrels and tons of chippers and squirrels last year. Also got my 12 quail babies when I left door open. Oops
